The only surviving "castle of the count."

We visited on a red hot day and the castle was cool in more ways than one way lol For 12 Euros we collected the audio tour and chose the English tour, a Belgian comedian called Wouter Deprez gave a wonderfully funny version of this horrible history, he got the tone just right and We found ourselves laughing out loud on several occasions ???????? This is great value for money and a must see when in Ghent

Muiderslot

Amsterdam Castle Muiderslot is one of the oldest and best-preserved castles in the Netherlands! It was built in 1285 and has gathered many interesting stories over the (700!) years. Visit the castle and the beautiful garden and get to know more about Dutch history.

We had one last day in the Netherlands, and decided this would be where we spent it! Getting there was a little work - from Amsterdam Central, take the train to Weesp, and then a bus to Muiden. Our timing was a little off, so we had to wait in Weesp at the station for awhile, but we just stopped in the cafe at the station and had some snacks and coffees. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the castle from the bus stop. Seriously such a magical place! The audioguide tour was really interesting, too. We weren't sure what to expect, but this ended up being one of my daughter's favorite things about our vacation.

Kasteel Huis Bergh

Nu is vorstelijk overnachten binnen ieders bereik.

Loved staying here! We booked both guard towers (one for my mum). Since those are the only two rooms, we felt like we owned the place. They pull up the little drawbridge by the tower at night but your room key gets you through the main gate so you can enter the town. Staff was friendly and served a huge picnic breakfast in the upstairs living room of our guard tower. We loved rambling the grounds. They give you complimentary tickets to enter the castle, but please note it is only open 12:30-4:30, so time your stay there so you can take advantage of it. We were staying in Amsterdam, so staying 1 night in Kasteel Huis Berg was out of our way, but completely worth it!

The house park of Kasteel Twickel is certainly worth a visit. A beautiful garden architecture provides for a variety between very cultivated and more wide and wild. The flower garden with the castle on the background provides beautiful pictures. When wandering through the park you can taste the classic grandeur and richness. Very nice!

Today we visited Slot Zuylen in a small village called Oud-Zuylen. The castle was the home of the female writer Belle van Zuylen. We had as nice guided tour and our guide Karen Wesdorp had great knowledge of the castle and it's inhabitants throughout the ages. The tour was spoken in Dutch, but for visitors who had English or German as their native language there were booklets with the information in their own language.
