Great time at Hotel Jakarta

Reviewed By Brett2204

We stayed at the Hotel Jakarta from May 28-31. We arrived on our River Cruise ship, the Emerald Sky, and after debarkation took a short cab ride to the hotel. As it was only 10:00 AM the hotel was nice enough to let us store our luggage until check in time. We headed off to see some sites and shop then came back around 4:00 PM. Our travelling companions room was ready to check in but ours was not so we spent some time in their room. I headed back down to the front desk around 4:45 and after some confusion was given the keys to our room. We had a premium waterfront room with a King bed, bathtub, shower and balcony. Very nice and very comfortable. The hotel is in a great location, especially if you are arriving by cruise ship. It is very clean with plants and trees surrounding the open areas. There is a terrific buffet style breakfast that was included in our room package. Two separate nights we had drinks at Malabar, the hotel lounge on the 8th floor and were served each time by a very polite young lady. Unfortunately I forget her name. Great atmosphere and great views of the water. We were able to purchase transportation passes through the hotel which was very convenient. Each pass was €20 and allowed three days of unlimited travel on the local trams, buses and ferries which was a great deal. We definitely got our monies worth as the bus stops were just across the street from the hotel. The only negative happened when 7 of us were stuck in the hotel elevator for almost an hour before the fire department were able to get us out. We are not those people to complain but this should have been handled better by the hotel. Immediately after the elevator stopped between floors we pushed the alarm button on the elevators keypad. After some time, the call was answered by the alarm company. The agent asked us some questions then said he would be back shortly. We waited about 15 more minutes then pushed the alarm again. This time another agent answered and was unaware that we had all ready spoken with someone else. This agent said that help would be there soon. After more minutes passed, it was now about 90 degrees in the elevator, we pounded on the elevator doors. Some other guests waiting for the elevator heard us and said they would inform the hotel of our plight. Very strange that after over 30 minutes in a stranded elevator that no one in the hotel seemed to be aware yet. As I said the fire department were able to open the doors and we were able to climb out as the elevator was halfway between floors. We were immediately met by Claudia from the hotel and she handed out water to each of us. She was probably more distraught at that time than we were. We were mainly just happy to be out. We headed to breakfast and again Claudia came to check on each of us. She was very professional, concerned and caring. I hope the hotel learns from this episode. It wasn’t anyones fault but there is no way guests should be stuck in an elevator for over 30 minutes without someone from the hotel being made aware. I sent an email to the hotel regarding this event 5 days after we arrived home. I have not received a reply from them, yet, but will update this review if I do. I would stay there again if we are lucky enough to end up back in Amsterdam someday. As I said earlier, it is a great hotel in a great location.

“premium room”

Reviewed By Sightseer50286100547

When me and my partner arrived after a very long day of travelling, we were shocked, that the hotel was so far away from any bus/tram/train stop. We had to walk 20 minutes just to get to a nearest tram stop to get to the city. Both receptionists were talking on a phone, not greeting us, after a few minutes one hung up and still didn’t greet us for a good few seconds. When he finally noticed us, I didn’t really understand what he was saying, talking too fast and quiet. The check out was much better. The bathtub took ages to fill up, the water pressure was poor. When using the hairdryer, I had to hold a button when drying my hair. So I ended up having cramps in my hand after I was done. I was excited to do my makeup in the gorgeous looking mirrors, but the lighting was so bad that I had to use my hand mirror infront of the window. I don’t know who thought, that putting lights above the mirror instead of into the mirrors (so the light would actually shine at our faces) was a good idea. The room didn’t even have any cutlery (unfortunately you only get cutlery in your room if the room has a kitchen), so I had to go down to the restaurant and grab a spoon so I could eat my yoghurt. I thought that a premium room that I payed a lot of money for, would be worth the price, but no, it’s not worth the money.

Beautifully decorated throughout and a gorgeous hotel cat!

Reviewed By sheilaghs-wheels

This hotel was a vibe. Beautifully decorated throughout and a gorgeous hotel cat! We stayed in a classic room which was more than comfortable and had a delightful courtyard view. It was quiet - no street noise at all. However the room was a little on the small side (there was nowhere to store our suitcase). The staff were pleasant and helpful particularly an older man who worked behind the bar. Free hot drinks available from the blue room was a nice touch. Breakfast was very expensive at almost 20 euros per person.

The hotel is clean, the bed in the room was very confortable i would say , breakfast was good with nice view but every day it was totally the same. Locations is very nice 2 min walk and there were a subway and trams 2-4 stops and you are in the downtown , also direct connection from/to the airport by train. Also what was nice that there were busses departing to Kuekenhof nearby. Also on the oposite street there are some restourants and supermarkets.

Fabulous boutique hotel

This is a fabulous boutique hotel. We had a triple room for 4 nights. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. The history of the building was beautifully evident in the exposed beams in the room, which was very clean and well equipped with a spacious bathroom. The room was very quiet with little street noise, and beds were very comfortable. The fridge and bathrobes are welcome touches. The omelette for breakfast was very tasty and the range of other breakfast items excellent, with delicious croissants. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Not what I thought we were getting

Reviewed By lexilooloobelles

Really didn't know what to rate this hotel. Where some bits were fine, others left a poor impression... Pros: bed really comfy, àmazing shower, some of the staff are really helpful and friendly.  Nicely decorated. If you put a note out not to clean your room, you get a 5 euro credit for the bar/restaurant. Day one bar server was very polite and friendly. Day 2 receptionist in the morning was very helpful too. Cons: location ( my fault for not properly checking but we were a 7 min walk to metro and then 15 mins to centraal. Fridge doesn't work, it was switched on but not cold.  I didn't mention this to reception as frankly I couldn't be bothered. the package we purchased advertised as complimentary mini bar but we weren't told on checking in that we had to ask for soft drinks at reception and that they weren't in our room. When we checked in we were also told we had interconnected rooms for us and the kids, but they weren't interconnected and when I called down to ask I was told they weren't available. The view isn't a stunning view of the river like I had the impression but rather some big tower blocks and a less aesthetic view of the river. When asking about travel into the city,  we were told how to get to the metro but we weren't told we could buy tickets from the hotel, or that kids under 12 were free. We also were under the impression that there was a daily shuttle boat to the city, buy when I asked we were told it doesn't run any more. On day 2 in the bar, I tried to order a mocktail but was told I couldn't have anything from the cocktail menu because there was a large group in the hotel and if everyone wanted a cocktail it would be too much!! There were about 20 other people in the bar and they weren't queueing up for cocktails. Just me!! Breakfast... I really thought being in Amsterdam there might be a pancake at breakfast but there was nothing other than the standard buffet, or else if there was we weren't offered it! For a hotel of this quality, I would have liked a few more toiletries options, we just had one shampoo, one shower gel and a moisturiser. I would have loved a shower cap and maybe a nail file or even a sewing kit!! Little extras that make you believe that it's worth the £ you're spending. Overall its a very comfortable hotel and the staff are friendly, but some don't really know what they're talking about and others should really be offering more info at reception. We didn't feel excited to be sat in the hotel bar or felt we were given a true Dutch welcome. I'd stay here on business maybe but I wouldn't bring my family here for leisure again. Sorry!

An excellent 4 star hotel

Reviewed By jils87

This location is fantastic for business travelers and people who can "sacrifice" a site (if they prefer the city center) if it means having a great hotel. The hotel is very well connected to public transport, and very close to the airport, which is excellent if you travel by plane. The hotel and the rooms are clean, spacious, and very well kept; you have all you need as a business traveler. Room views, as always, depend on the location. Some have an idea of a garage and a car park, and some have a scenic view of the canal, suburbs, and even windmills in the distance. The breakfast is fantastic! Superb selection and food quality are better than at some 5-star hotels I stayed in. The staff in the restaurant is friendly and helpful. Bravo for the coffee, too, for us Europeans. :) I loved the 24/7 shop within the hotel, and I suggest that the hotel may broaden the selection of goodies a little bit; you have a place for it. The only minus is the staff at the reception. They are professional, but they could be more friendly and smile maybe. Also, some of us (since it was a business trip) have some straightforward inquiries. They replied very straightforwardly, like, "Unfortunately, that is not possible\ We don't have it," and that is it, no "going the extra mile." Maybe that is the policy of the hotel.

This is the only time I have encounter such a fuss & refusal to even acknowledge my membership, points & both in terms of states & cooperation. During my interaction with at first the receptionist & then via the receptionists manager (WHO REFUSSED TO COME TALK WITH ME IN PERSON) I was given several inaccurate at best, worst lies, pieces of information & excuses. This lasted over 30 minutes with me stood at the desk. In the end I gave up to just to get to the room and continue my evenings plans I asked to deal with a senior manager the next. Then the room was ok however there was no shower pressure, again this was not fixed, even when reported. The next day was even worse I checked out because I had already decided I felt the service was terrible but on departure the Manager Stefan (I think) didn’t even acknowledge that the service I received on check-in, misinformation provided and problem with the room was an issue.
