Old Arsenal Museum (Altes Zeughaus)

We visited this museum years ago. Since then, the 400-year-old building has been renovated as has the extensive displays of weapons, suits of armor and other artifacts that include a full circa 1775 military officer’s suit as well as skulls showing the damage done by medieval halberds and other weapons during battle. There are extensive collections of muskets, swords, spears and other nasty weapons from the medieval period through the 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors can handle a halberd and try on an original suit of armor and helmet. Since our visit, the number of muskets on display has unfortunately been scaled back...unfortunately because we didn’t see any flintlock jaeger rifles, which we loved to see in abundance during our last visit. But overall the revocations are very well done!! We definitely recommend this museum!!!

Must see when you are in Solothurn. A pity that the tower wasn't open when we were there. Check-out the concerts.

Planetenweg

Reviewed By Mick1803 - Koeniz, Switzerland

This is a very nice day hike if you follow the Planetenweg from the Sun (Weissenstein) to the outer rims of Pluto (Grenchenberg). Highest point of the hike is Hasenmatt at 1430m with very goid views over the Swiss plateau and the Alps. There are plenty of place to rest and have refreshments. From Unterer Grenchenberg there is public transport to Grenchen SBB station with connections to Zurich or Biel. In early summer take care of icy bits in the steeper parts of Hasenmatt or Grenchenberg.
