Villaggio Bizantino di Vallone Canalotto

A place where archeology and nature, history and landscape intertwine harmoniously... An ancient rocky settlement, which stands between century old trees and stately conifers, where tombs, pigeon coops, ancient wineries, an arabic qanat, and a Byzantine stone church are still evident among these majestic rock walls. Histories of the diverse races of people who followed each other here from prehistoric times are engraved into the civil, religious, and funerary rock of its architecture. Nature and its landscape, in which the Byzantine Village is located, is outstanding. It is immersed in a forest of eucalyptus and pine trees on the higher slopes, where you can enjoy a splendid view of the Morello Valley and its lake while below in the valley, you find yourself in the lush Vallone Canalotto among ancient springs and Mediterranean scrub flora and plants which the ancient inhabitants of this place used for healing, nutrition or for their magical rituals. We recommend to book in advance.

This is a spectacular wide open piazza with lots happening, we were lucky it was Epiphany and they had drummers and flag twirlers in the square, The surrounding buildings especially the Duomo are breathtaking. Sometimes quiet often busy you can sit and drink a coffee and watch the world go by.

Necropoli di Pantalica

Hiking in the magical Anapo river valley, you come upon steep cliff sides that are dotted with thousands of rock-cut tombs dating from the 13th century BC.

Reviewed By prettylilly - Riverside, United States

For travelers who have the time, Pantalica is well worth arranging. Properly done, it is a full day trip from Siracusa or Noto. We had the services of Carlo Montesanti, who is extremely knowledgeable about the archaeology and natural history of this ancient necropolis and good company as well. (He was recommended by another guide, who claimed that Carlo was THE expert on Pantalica.) Although the 4,000 or so tombs, dating as far back as the 13th century BC are the initial attraction, Pantalica's story continues through the classical era and into the medievall and modern Christian era. In addition, this is wild and beautiful area and makes for a great hike.

Ragusa Ibla

Reviewed By traveltheglobe0919 - Singapore, Singapore

The best way to appreciate Ragusa Ibla is to climb up to Ragusa Superiore and enjoy the breathtaking views at sunset at the steps next to Chiesa di Santa Maria Della Scale. You can also choose to take the local bus up, and walk about 10 mins to the vantage point. Buses #11 or #33 depart from the bus stop at the front of of the main garden Giardino Ibleo. The ride up is scenic and rewarding, and offers a different experience vs the climb. We did both. Took the bus up for sunset and did the hike at the break of dawn to catch sunrise. I must say that the sunset views are more spectacular. Ragusa Ibla is a charming little hilltop city that can be easily explored in two days at a leisurely pace. To me it’s like an open air museum where you’ll want to check out every nook and corner. In the evenings, the city gets even more atmospheric as you stroll along the cobbled streets set against a backdrop of lovely baroque architecture amid dramatic lighting.

Monastero del San salvatore

Reviewed By joyw319

The interior of this church is stunning, the decoration is of very high quality and there is a peaceful contemplative atmosphere. We were told by our excellent guide Annalise that it was done by a top painter from Palermo and what the different colours signify. The tour of the tower was interesting, the daughters of the wealthy families were sent here as nuns, but it is now a seminary for the priesthood. It was an easy climb up to the tower with no scary drops, and there are 360 degree views from the top.

Centro Storico

Reviewed By GIOPIX - Milan, Italy

if you are in Sicily and you miss Noto, well, you are not in Sicily. One of the most beautiful baroque masterpieces of Italy, Unesco World Heritage since 2002, it is an open air museum. Must see: the Cathedral, strolling on the Main Street at night, all the churches with hidden treasures, and the little FANTASTIC restaurants along the little side roads. Avoid the Main Street to eat , they are just tourist traps. Go down and choose the first or second street parallel to the main one, any place will satisfy your palate at a fair price. You are in Sicily, you are in Noto, paradise is a step away.
