Jiuzhaigou Valley, eulogized as a world of magical fairytale, has for years enchanted tourists with its mountains and luxuriant forests, colorful lakes, gushing waterfalls and abundant wildlife. To its south is the Huanglong (Yellow Dragon Scenic Area). Jiuzhaigou Valley is located in Nanping County, 450 kilometers (about 280 miles) to the north of Chengdu City, Sichuan, covers a total area of 720 square kilometers and the valley is 50 kilometers in length. In 1992, UNESCO entered this scenic area onto the world natural heritage list.Jiuzhaigou, literally the Nine Village Valley, is hence known for the nine Tibetan villages within its boundary, Inhabited by Tibetans, the nine villages and alpine lakes, are like reflecting mirrors or crystal jade blocks inlaid in snow mountains and forests.
There is a saying in China that after visited JiuZhaiGou, you would not want to visit places with waterfalls and lakes. This natural reserve is indeed a paradise for people who enjoy seeing waterfalls and lakes. As for photography enthusiasts, this is the place that you should not miss.

Really enjoyed the walk around the park (there is a car-train that can drive you around if you are less mobile). Several nice enclosures with pandas of varying age groups. Didn’t see any really small babies though. They also have some red pandas and even a black bear. Worth a visit!

Located at 6,500 feet in the verdant mountains of Sichuan Province, this reserve is one of the last strongholds of the giant panda
I travelled to the Wolong Giant Panda Research Centre by private car with a Chinese lady driver. It cost me about $200 Canadian and was well worth it. We visited both the Wolong Panda Centre and the Dujiangyan Panda Centre. I paid for my driver to accompany me inside the Centres and this proved to be wise as she used her phone to tell me details about the pandas and the parks. I had visited the Wolong Centre before the terrible earthquake of 2007. At that time the park was small and modest, but it had 16 one-year-old pandas!!! I was curious to see how much the park had changed. I was truly amazed by the development of large enclosures with lots of natural activities for the pandas to enjoy. The new Wolong Panda Centre nestled in the Wenqiao mountains is absolutely wonderful. At each enclosure, there are signs telling the visitor the names and ages of the pandas. If you can spare the time, Wolong is a must for the panda enthusiast.

The historical irrigation system dates back to the 3rd century B.C and still functions.
We came by taxi from the Qingcheng Mountain Base to the Main Entrance (40 RMB). At the entrance is a special desk for foreigners with a English speaking person. We enjoyed the walk on the hanging bridge over the Feishayan Spillway, where during the flooding season the stone and sand will be deposited. We followed the Eastern Road on the Fish, the divider of the inner and outer River. We reached a food area, where we enjoyed local dishes with a Harbin Beer. Further up the island you reach the Yuzui Water dividing Dike. The inner River will bring the water to the Chengdu plain for irrigation, and the outer river will bring away the additional flood water in rainy saison, avoiding the flooding of the Chengdu area for over 2000 years! Over the Anlan Suspension Bridge we reached the path to the Julei Pass, where you have a good view over the whole Dujiangyan Scenic Area. On the way down you reach the Shidian Temple and the antique town. Walking down the main street with many shops and food outlets, you reach the ancient Gate. Walk through the gate, cross the bridge ahead and turn right into the open park. Cross the park and turn right on the street ahead. After crossing the bride you see on the right hand side a glas covered stairway, leading down to the Lidui Park Station, where you can take the High Speed Train back to Chengdu (20 RMB). Calculate 3 hours or more for an enjoyable excursion within the Lidui Park.

You will see adorable giant pandas playing on the well maintained ground. Walking the paths itself is also very pleasant with lots of bamboo providing shades and look very cool. This place is not only for kids, there are many adults coming by themselves and enjoy the nice walking and watching the playful pandas. The park is huge, there are many pandas spread out at different locations. I would be surprised if you don't see one out there during your visit. We saw different groups of pandas - baby pandas, adult pandas, red pandas,....on the ground, on trees, and on wooden structures,....They are so cute! We took lots of pictures and video clips. A place with lots of fond memories.

A wonderful island of calm, with the ebony forest, bamboo grove, waterscape and stone path all unexpected treats in addition to the very well explained archaeology site - some of the best English explanatory signs that I have seen anywhere. (I also liked the "No Striding" signs to keep people from stepping over the handrails. Both the housing and the relic display building are very well designed, the collection is displayed very attractively.

A great beautiful park to spend a few hours walking around with lots to see, huge bamboo trees, plenty of sculptures and lots of artwork. We went in the morning and there was not too many people here. Would recommend if you have a few hours spare.
