Cat Eye Manitoba Fishing

Reviewed By Murray H - Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

I booked Cateye to fish for walleye last fall. It was early November and the weather was cold and the wind was brisk. Dan get us entertained and on walleye all day. He was very engaging, knowledgable and professional. I would definitely recommended him for walleye fishing in the Red.

Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site

Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site of CanadaHistory will unfold before your eyes at this restored 19th century fort where costumed staff recreate the 1850s in the Red River Valley. Come and meet the Governor of the Hudson’s Bay Company as he strolls through his garden, barter with the company clerk, sit in a tipi and listen to the whispers of ancient legends, and touch the coarse fur of a bison hide at the oldest stone fur trading post in North America – or, if you prefer, scour the fort for clues in a family scavenger hunt. There is something here for the whole family.Living-history programs run mid-May – Labour Day, 9:00 – 5:00 daily. Daily guided tours in English and French and motorized access for mobility challenged visitors available. Regularly scheduled tours are offered in September. Don’t forget to ask us about our Halloween and Christmas programs. The site is open to groups year-round for tours, weddings or meetings by pre-booking.

2017 is free admission and paid programming is also available. Different days had different activities (like Bannock and choclate)
The main building had a small souvenir store and restaurant and washrooms. The front desk provided us with a map of the fort and activity books for the kids.
The one main building is currently under renovations. It is a nice walk into the fort with a few out buildings and tipi's to explore.
There was a corn roast and pie sample this particular day as well. The staff are all in character and interact a bit with you and answer any questions.
We spent about an hour and a half exploring with 3 kids under 10. More time could definitely be spent.

St Andrew's Lock and Dam

Reviewed By faithandhope2live - Canada

It is only 20 minute drive from the north perimeter of Winnipeg. This is a popular place for fishermen. Because of the dam rushing water attracts all kinds of fish there. Lots of fresh air and the views are beautiful. When we lived in Winnipeg we sometimes went there for fishing or a stroll. This October when we were in Winnipeg we made a trip there and saw the fishermen pull up fishes here and there, it was a fun visit.
Happy Travelling!

Marine Museum of Manitoba

Reviewed By 893fayg - Selkirk

A real eye opener for persons from areas away from the Red River here in Manitoba. These boats/paddle wheelers look really large and it takes some imagination to visualize them plying the murky water of the Red River.
An excursion worth taking to check out navigation history of the area. The museum has a "frightfully" good Hallowe'en tour---if you are brave enough!!!
As there are some fairly steep/high stairs wear a good walking shoe.

There's a parking lot which was quite convenient.
The short Gifts of the Red Self-Guiding Walk is a wonderful experience when you don't have a lot of time but love spending any available moments in nature.
The many Pelicans were definitely a great addition to the scene.
I enjoyed seeing the large fish at the viewpoint by the dam.
Many boats & canoes on the water.
Some people fishing and having a picnic.
The walk on the bridge was wonderful as many Dragon Flies were photographed.
Nearby restaurants were A&W, Skinners, Half Moon, etc.
There is nearby gas/store.

Whiskers & Walleye with Bass

Reviewed By leecheater - St. Cloud, mn

My wife and I recently spent a rainy morning fishing with Jan Bass. He's the owner of Whiskers & Walleyes with Bass. The weather wasn't too bad but we did need rain gear. Jan had us right on the Channel Cats at the very first spot. We caught 12 of them in just over 3 hours.
I have went out with scores of fishing guides over my fishing career. Jan rates right near the top of being helpful, good conversation, and attentiveness to our needs. The boat was clean and well equipped. Really nice morning. We will be back to try this again.

Kelly's Bar & Grill

Reviewed By Tom7787 - Selkirk, Canada

We have been going to Kelly's Bar and Grill for years. We usually go for Wing night on Tuesday's and Thursdays or the Bud Spud and Steak night on Fridays. We have frequented it on other nights as well.
Kelly's Bar and Grill is the Lounge area for the Selkirk Inn and Conference Cenre. The motel is across the parking lot from Smitty's Restaurant, and Kelly's Bar and Grill is located at the back of the same building adjacent to the Banquet area. Kelly's could also be classified as a Sports Bar as it has several televisions and always has sporting events playing. They do promotions for Winnipeg Jets games and also open the banquet area which has a large projection screen. They have promotions to support the local Selkirk Junior hockey teams. They also have promotions for Monday night football and other events.
The lounge is two thirds Seating for food and beverages while the other other third is banks of video lottery terminals.
The smoking section is between both entry doors and for a non smoker is not pleasant to walk through and sometimes unsightly with the butts on the ground. Better there than inside.
The selection of beers on tap is good and they have buckets of beer as well. They have a good selection liqour and wine.
Tuesday and Thursday can be quite busy with the wing special and really busy if the Jets are playing. Friday is also popular for Bud Spud and Steak for $9.95. The pizza which is made on site is also quite good. The food is consistent and the portions are good. Not really health conscious choices but I believe you can also order off the Smitty's menu which offers a wide variety of choices including Heart Smart I believe.
It is a great place to get together with friends and we always see others we know. It is a great place to enjoy a couple of hours out. It is also within walking distance from our house so we don't have to drive.
Many fisherman and hunters stay at the Selkirk Inn and use Smitty's and the Kelly's Bar and Grill for their meals and entertainment while staying in Selkirk. The parking lot is large enough to handle their trailers with boats, ATVs and equipment.

Chuck The Channel Catfish

Reviewed By Deborah P - Manitoba

Selkirk is considered the cat fishing capital of the world, so it's appropriate that a giant cat fish is perched along their Main Street. There's not a lot of signage leading to him, but there's good parking when you spot him. Some people collect pictures of themselves beside giant roadside attractions. This is one of the nicer ones.

Cool Dozen Micro Golf

A indoor tropical escape for experienced and novice golfers. The size of the greens, banking & elevation changes, waterfall, jump hole and sand traps all work to create Manitoba's finest indoor miniature golf course. An enjoyable and exciting challenge for people of all ages. We can turn down the light for "Glow in the Dark Golf".

What a fun new place for Selkirk! Kind of tucked quietly into the corner in the downtown Mall, we found this beautiful, tropical-themed 12 hole mini-golf course. They even have a waterfall!
We did glow golf, which is an absolute blast!! The holes were more challenging than we expected, which made it all the more enjoyable for us, but there was a party golfing ahead of us with little ones and their grandparents who were having just as much fun as we were.
Highly recommend checking this place out. Really fun for all ages and skill levels!!
