The guys give you plenty of information at the beginning of the trip. Sadly none of it tallies with the river course itself. Perhaps they have just learned it by rote without going near the water- I'm not sure- but basically once you ignore their well intended advice it works better. Or at least is less stressful.
When the water is low this trail is really not worth doing. As an adult with two kids in one boat none of the rapids work and you spend the entire three hours pushing the boat off the rocks. The trail is badly signposted - even the end which is extraordinary really - and the staff tend to be quite short and impatient. Canoe is a great way to see this part of the world but I'm convinced there are better people to do it with.

This is the second year we have been back - the people are so nice with a great sense of humour and we can communicate well without speaking our respective languages fluently. All our kit was in good order and the instructions were easy to understand. Several weirs, dams, Bridges and teensy rapids later and after swimming and picnic stops we arrived at the Happy Ending in 3 3/4 hours and we picked up promptly in the minibus and driven back to base. Great value and excellent fun.

Grotte du Bosc

Located opposite a church on a minor road off the D75 to the NE of Saint Antonin Noble Val. There is a picnic site, bring your own picnic (they sell drinks & ice creams). The 14°C asparagus caves are interesting, but there are others in France which are more impressive. They have bones of the extinct giant cave bear. Guided tour mandatory, but only at appointed times. Closed at lunch time. Display & sales of gemstones etc.

We've been in the area for 15 years and somehow missed this one. What a lovely peaceful spot. It's so refreshing that everything's done on an honesty box system. The Gardens are very well kept, and looked in remarkably good shape considering the lack of rainfall over the summer. Not 100% pushchair friendly, but it just made sure the little one used his legs a bit more!

Marche

We happened upon the Sunday market when arriving for a visit to this beautiful village. Many shops and art galleries were open, even in the off-season. The market was lively. We found delicious and fresh produce and eggs as well as other wonderful local treats. Skip the patisserie stand to the back and right as you face the large cafe in the square. We bought the worst bread and pastries of our trip there. So sad too because the gentlemen who ran it were extremely kind.

La Maison Romane

This elegant and impressive civic building, apparently the oldest in France, is just one of the many marvels Saint Antonin has to offer a lover of medieval architecture, though it is sadly not open to the public. We headed directly to the tourist office, where we picked up the best free map and guide we had been given all holiday. Using this we embarked on our walk of discovery around the many streets, alleyways and open squares of this beautiful town. From grand merchant's palaces, to tall half-timbered buildings, an old medieval tannery, an abbey and a frame to hold oxen whilst they were shod, we had a ball learning all about the town's past and the people who lived there. Every street, every nook and cranny, seemed to have something worth seeing. I really can't recommend this town enough.

Many book, but there is really no need if you turn up at the start of the day (10am) during the week. The river is very gentle, with a couple of small rapids that are comfortably navigated even by novices.
A safety briefing (in English) is complemented by a laminated reminder of which side of the river to take at certain points. A watertight container is provided for your keys, lunch, wallet etc and there are plenty of places to stop and have a swim, some food or a rest.

Enjoyable day on river from good location in St Antonin. Good value for money.
Team at Variation Sports Nature were very friendly and welcoming, with a nice and relaxed safety presentation and happy to answer any questions.
An amazing blend of beautiful scenery and exciting rapids including lots of spots to picnic and swim (you can put your picnic items in barrels that attach to canoes).
Jumping off 5m high rock at halfway point was highlight for my 14-year-old boy.
Third weir you reach is a chute on left. You have to use this because there is a large drop otherwise. For weir at Cazal, signs on very high bridge are hard to see, but they are telling you to go to the rocks on right, get out of canoe and walk around. River was low so we canoed over but we stopped and checked beforehand, watching others do it first. They have a board with pictures of all the rapids. The relevant one is picture 6.
Also bear in mind there are no loos at pick-up point and there may be a wait for the bus :->

Kayman

Canoes kayman welcome you at the heart of the gorges of Aveyron, space favored for the visit of a rich region. The concept kayman offers several advantages: welcome, parking lot, led in minibus to the boarding, the landing on our private beach without hourly constraint, possibility of picnicing on the base, the bathing, the possible games and the idleness!

This was a wonderful day out. You park where the kayaking ends and they drive you to the start. The river itself is perfect for kayaking and my 3 children, all pre teens loved it. There is a watertight storage unit where you can store you belongings in the kayak. We took a picnic which we stopped and eat at the riverside. We also visited a riverside bar for a drink on the way along. I'd definitely recommend this as a perfect family day out.
