Top 10 restaurants in Toulouse, France

December 15, 2017 Leonardo Torrence

The southern France city of Toulouse is a study in contrasts. Visit the Academie des Jeux Floraux, the oldest literary society in the western world, as well as the Galerie du Chateau d'eau, the world's first photography museum. Stroll the Garonne, before visiting France's most beautiful pipe organ at the Saint-Sernin Basilica. Yet for all its medieval architecture, Toulouse is a modern city, home to the European aerospace industry, as well as bars and restaurants in bustling Place du Capitole.

Au Pois Gourmand

In a beautiful 19th century colonial style house, the Plazzotta family offers you an inventive cuisine, made from local fresh products. The restaurant Au Pois Gourmand welcomes you in an ideal location indoor, but also outdoors on a Terrace along the Garonne river where you can taste the chef's specials during the summer. During the mid-season, a heated pergola also allows you to enjoy this place. We provide a lunch menu for € 26. For dinner, three menus are available : the Decouverte Menu at € 44, the seasonal (€ 65) and the Tasting (€ 75) menus, including wine.

We had the set dinner menu which comprised of Lobster Dishes with their chosen wines. It was interesting, beautifully cooked and well prepared and served. The wine servings were generous. The service very efficient. Perhaps a little too efficient, just a little longer between courses would have been better. Staff very friendly. It was a late spring evening and the view over the river quite nice. In all a very good meal to the highest standard. Worth a visit. Very good value.

Le Saint Sauvage

Reviewed By David_Seymour1990 - London, United Kingdom

Rich, decadent, generous, beautiful, blooming tasty! These are all words I'd use to describe the experience we had at Le Saint Sauvage.
I genuinely don't think the other reviews I read do it justice because although I was looking forward to our meal, I was not expecting to have the meal we did. This small restaurant only seats around 20 people so either turn up early or book. The decor is very quirky which makes a change to the typical high end restaurants who's interiors often lack any sort of character.
Firstly the service. Although the waiter couldn't speak English he was very funny and friendly and helped provide a relaxed meal throughout.
Now the food. Our starters consisted of not one, not two but 6 pieces of foie gras! It was the size of a main course. Incredibly rich but incredibly indulgent. My girlfriend and I also both enjoyed the pigeon breast which was perfectly cooked served with two more pieces of foie gras, and an array of vegetables which complemented it perfectly. The potato and rosemary croquette and celeriac purée in particular we standouts. Both of these courses were cooked and presented with such care, love and skill. We just about had enough room to share a lemon meringue tart which was excellent before literally rolling home. We didn't need to eat until about 2 the next day!
By far the best meal I ate in our two week tour of France. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough and would encourage you to enjoy a meal that you won't forget in a hurry.

Michel Sarran

Michel Sarran restaurant in Toulouses charming old town is a townhouse eaterie that boasts a pair of Michelin stars, understated warmth and style, and the most famous gastronomic name in the city. Michels wife Francoise greets you and shows you to the bubbling, modern ground floor dining room, the leafy Terrace, or one of the more subdued, romantic first floor dining rooms. Sarran has made his name with ambitious, subtle gastronomy focussing on the best regional, seasonal ingredients: warm foie gras soup with Belon oysters, wild salmon cooked and cru with green curry emulsion and soba noodles and shellfish, chicken and egg with Aquitaine caviar. The lunchtime Saveurs menu is a steal. Wines and service are superb and the amuse-bouche delightful.

This represents a complete meal experience with discrete but very professional service. The quality of ingredients and preparation is exceptional however I did find it all overpowering and could have done with less and lighter on the lower priced fixed menu we chose.
Personally my favourite restaurant in Toulouse remains P-Yr for its modernity and lightness of touch without losing any flavours.

Pizzeria Friggitoria Napoletana

Reviewed By 617massimom - Aix-en-Provence, France

The pizza like italians like: thin, but not too much, crusty, but not dry, tasty, but not greasy.
The most important thing: good ingredients! No fake mozzarella or fake plastic ham.
The of course you can also have your pizza with milk cream or goat cheese and honey, nobody is perfect.
Negative point: it is not a "pizzeria" restaurant, but more a take-away

Lovely service, nice short menu indicating that the ingredients are fresh. Camembert roti is definitely for two, well presented and nice bread and big salad to go with it. Rather large portions I couldn't finish the lamb.
The mojito wine aperitif was a bit odd, not to my taste at all!

Some of my French colleagues took me to this place and I have to say, it didn't disappoint. Quite small which gives it a nice atmosphere and the food is brilliant. A great selection of different tapas to share around the table. We also had the challenge Jalapenoise as a starter, duck hearts in a "spicy" chilli sauce. It was very tasty, just not very spicy. But the Chien Fou compensated for that. Definitely a place worth visiting when you are in Toulouse.

L'Ouverture Restaurant Musical

Unique restaurant. Virtuous Music and Authentic Sicilian Food! This music restaurant is managed by the musician and cook Santy Masciaro from Sicily. He welcomes guests with a glass of prosecco and delicious Sicilian finger food... And of course with a smile. Then the restaurant transforms in a small concert hall and Santy plays a virtuous guitar concert of 30 min. After the concert; lights go on again and a home made Sicilian menu is served. All recipes are from his family.

This was my favourite experience in Toulouse. The evening started at 8.00 p.m with canapés. There was then a 40 minute classical guitar recital from the owner which was wonderful. We then ate a delicious 3 course meal (portions huge!). The restaurant is small, so booking is advised. The food is Sicilian based. I cannot recommend this restaurant too highly and would certainly return.

Food and staff are fantastic. The dinner crepe I had (filled with typical breakfast ingredients like egg, pepper, and chorizo) was excellent and filling. And the dessert crepe was just as good. A lovely little ambience with just one waitress and one chef, they do a phenomenal job keeping everyone happy and cared for. Highly recommended for anyone in Toulouse. Possibly the best quality/price ratio I have found in the city.
