Port Colborne (2016 population 18,306) is a city on Lake Erie, at the southern end of the Welland Canal, in the Niagara Region of southern Ontario, Canada. The original settlement, known as Gravelly Bay, dates from 1832 and was renamed after Sir John Colborne, a British war hero and the Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada at the time of the opening of the (new) southern terminus of the First Welland Canal in 1833.

Spacious park with a covered eating area picnic tables and clean washrooms.There is a bicycle trail that passes through the park which makes for a pleasant ride.Trail heads south to the downtown area. Posted in the park is a brass historical plague explaining the history of the canal along with a massive ships anchor. In the height of the warmer months the park is well maintained and the gardens are breathtaking. Not only are the flowers blooming along the pathways but up the various levels to the fountain. Certainly a unique display of colours for the flowers. Once at the top of the fountain there is a viewing spot where you can see the ships travel through Lock 8 giving a great view of the canal and surrounding area. I have see on a few occasions brides and grooms having wedding pictures in front of the beautiful gardens. Certainly worth a stop or to have a picnic lunch. Very close to this area is the Tourist Information Office as well. And another perk parking is free.

I love riding my bike down the Friendship Trail. So much beautiful scenery to look at. I ride it all the time. I have gone all the way from Wainfleet to Fort Erie and from Port Colborne to Thorold (Allenberg)

My daughter and I visit this park frequently with her 3 children. It is a great park with a wonderful playground and splash pad for the kids, and adults too if you wish! It is always clean and there are clean washrooms right beside the park.

This trail follows the canal along its west bank from St. Catharines through Thorold, Welland, and Port Colborne. In Thorold, the path crosses to the "Thorold Island" created between the old third canal and the current fourth canal in Welland, it follows the old fourth canal through the city, paved on both sides of the canal. The trail zigzags across the canal in Port Colborne until it meets the Friendship Trail at Seaway Park.

On a recent cycling trip to the Niagara Peninsula we went along the Welland Canal starting at Lake Ontario in St Catherine's. The trail runs from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie. Approximately 50km. Stopped in Welland for a coffee at a small Cafe which prides itself with its board games . Its Welland first Board Game Cafe I believe. It's right on the canal on the West side corner at the end of the bridge, which is one way so be careful use the sidewalk. The trail path is so picturesque and the path is in great shape. You follow the elevation of the canal and at the end of the path in Port Colbourne you can pick up the Friendship Trail which will take you on to Fort Erie. Highly recommend this trip.

Our family will be starting our 3rd boating season summer at Sugarloaf and we love it. The slips and docks are in excellent shape; the washrooms, showers and other areas are very clean and up to date. All staff members are very friendly and helpful. Surrounding the marina in a a beautiful park with fantastic views of Lake Erie and its only a short walk or drive to the historic downtown shopping and dining are of Port Colborne. During the summer months there are plenty of activities to see such as the annual Canal Days which includes 100's of vendors, exhibits and live entertainment. You can tour the tour Tall Ships and watch the Sugarloaf Sailing Club fleet sail on Lake Erie or watch other boats traverse up the canal.

We went to this beach several times this summer. The first two times we got stuck in the sand and barely got our truck out. Just as we decided to visit less or look for an alternative the people who manage the beach removed the extra sand , so it became possible to drive. That was a game changer ! We are now going religiously! We park right by the water, set up our gazebo and tent which allows for proper social distancing. We don't have to carry anything by hand. Just drive in, set up in 10 min. and enjoy. It is the best beach around! Well worth the parking fee. Staff is amazing ! They clean the beach in the morning, collect garbage in the afternoon and patrol to ensure social distancing is followed. Five star experience all around!

We stayed at the pleasant beach campground and visited the beach only once because of the weather. It was very nice with clean sand, shallow water and sandy lake floor that was easy to walk.
