Roncador Waterfall

When in Palmas a great side trip is the Roncadeira waterfall. I was there this last weekend and had a great time. The water is refreshing after the 1.5 mile hike. The initial decent is 120 meter drop but there are stairs to go down to reach the trail head. Going back up the stairs is the only bad part of this hike. We had a great time and recommend this to everyone. It cost us R$5.00 to go down or at the time about $2.50

Cesamar Park

Nice park has Capivara that you are able to see up close. The only bad thing is the terrible condition of the one bridge made out of wood. It looks like it is about to fall into the creek below. It needs replaced with something more perminant. Little monkeys, alligators, and many types of birds can be seen throughout the park. Bathrooms availble at a local restaraunt, and community events on the weekends.

Ilha Canela

I don't want to be unfair, this is an interesting activity, you get there by a small boat through the river, it is a nice ride... but what happens is that once you get there, there is not much to see or do.
There is a restaurant infrastructure with nice people, some shadow and chairs/tables, but the bath area is limited, and the water level really shallow. What happens is the water gets too hot!!! So you feel like you are in a hot bathtub, under a hot sun, so not really pleasant feeling, for my taste.
The view is nice, but, honestly, it is not the type of thing I'd like to spend the day on... and in the weekends you should expect it to be crowded, so get there early.

It's really beautiful and enormous! Nice to walk by it, but in the night I wouldn't recommend getting to much into de plaza itself. It is a little dark in the night. But there are always people running in the sidewalk at night.

Beautiful and calm. It's sad that it's not place to swim. Go watch the sunset and eat something by the sand and you won't regret.
