Lieu Historique National D’Obadjiwan–Fort-Temiscamingue

Escape to the shores of the majestic Lake Timiskaming, where peace and beauty await you just a few hours away from the big city. Built on a site used by the Algonquin people for over 1,000 years, Fort Témiscamingue-Obadjiwan was once an important trading post. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the fort played a strategic role in the ongoing struggle between the French and British for control of the fur trade in the Upper Ottawa and Hudson Bay basins. Take part in a culturally enriching experience in harmony with nature, at this historical meeting place where people traded goods.

This is a little gem in the Gatineau Hills that a friend told us about...sure glad we went...a nice 20-30 min hike through the forest trails and then you come upon the ruins and lovely waterfalls...it really is a great little spot for an afternoon adventure.

Great place to visit, may be a bit hard for some to walk up from the parking lot, but worth it. Makes for great photos. A nice walk with flowers around, the 'prime minister's chalet ' more a tea and coffee area. Those ruins were the first places i visited as a kid and still is a joy to this day. I prefer spring or fall to visit but summer is good also

Lieu historique national du Canada du Manoir-Papineau

Reviewed By genevievep249 - Toronto, Canada

We learned so much. The guide gave a super interesting tour with history of Québec and the ways of the days. Did you know that after dinner, men and women were gathering in another room together to discuss politics, as opposed to the English etiquette demanding that they be in separate rooms? It is a must do in Montebello. Also, the way to access the manoir is through the forest and it is too lovely!
