What to do and see in Okanagan Valley, Okanagan Valley: The Best Mountains

June 21, 2021 Venice Greaves

The Okanagan Valley, in the interior of British Columbia, is a popular Canadian vacation destination known for skiing in the winter and watersports in the summer. The area's quaint towns and lush vineyards are connected by a network of clear blue lakes and rivers and surrounded by rolling, sun-dappled hills. Head to Kelowna for one of several wine festivals or to Penticton for the sugary summer Peach Festival. To the south is Osoyoos, home to an arid desert filled with rare plants and animals.

If your traveling on Hwy 3 in either direction, up or down the Anarchist, and you see the pullout for the viewpoint, you better pull off and enjoy the view. It's good, no matter what the weather.

Excellent vantage point to have a bird's eye view of Penticton and surrounding mountains. The climb was a bit steep so good walking shoes are a must. It was quite windy that day but nonetheless, the views made it worthwhile.

Great hike up to the top with an amazing view. No matter the weather, great exercise. The drive up to the parking lot is a little nerve wracking for someone who is afraid of heights. But still a great and fun place to visit.

Mount Kobau

Reviewed By dougshmish - Vancouver, Canada

I drove up from Osoyoos. 5 minutes on the highway and about 35 on the gravel road up the mountain. The road is in excellent condition for dirt road that goes up a mountain. Any 2wd car can make it although there is some rough washboard along the way that requires you to slow down. I went up with my 6” reflector telescope and got to see several clusters, nebulae, galaxies and planets. Observed: M5, M9, M10, M12, M27, M33, M81, M82, M94, M97, NGC6960, Saturn and Jupiter. Dark skies, pretty warm but a sweater was nice. Saw a fox on the drive up.
