Elk Valley Nordic Centre

This non-profit society manages over 20kms of nordic trails groomed for classic and skate winter skiing. There are two areas managed by the club. One area is in town at the Fernie Golf Course featuring 12kms of trails on fairly mellow terrain with wide open spaces. There are also more than 10kms of trails at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre beside Mt Fernie Provincial Park. To reach the Elk Valley Nordic Centre, go west from Fernie on Highway 3. At 3 km from the bridge, turn right at the Island Lake Lodge sign. Follow the road for 0.9 km to the Mt. Fernie Provincial Park sign. Turn left into the overflow parking lot at 0.2 km. The hilly terrain and isolated nature of the trails makes this a very exciting place to ski. The trails link up with the multi-use trails at Fernie Alpine Resort. Trail maps are posted at the kiosks located at the entrances to the trails. Please NO DOGS ON THE TRAILS at any time. The Elk Valley Nordic Centre Warming Hut is located at (49.485633 N, 115.090980 W).

Check out live glass blowing, score awesome souvenirs, and take a workshop to learn a new skill: Big Eddy Glassworks is located in the trendy Big Eddy neighbourhood of Revelstoke, and we’re open 5 days a week! Plan your visit and learn everything there is to know about the art of glass blowing. We’re always hosting new events, teaching at one of our workshops, or adding unique stock to our shelves. Come hang out with us!

We were driving west along HWY 1 and decided to stop for a break in Revelstoke. Brian at the Visitor’s Center suggested Big Eddy’s so we went over the one lane bridge to find it. The proprietor is a lovely young lady by the name of Leah. Her shop is small, but, full of beautiful glass creations for sale at reasonable prices. She was making cheerful cups during our visit so we bought 4 of them that were made yesterday. They explained that the glass has to cool slowly in a particular box to avoid cracking. Lee and her team were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. They normally hold glass making workshops, but, with COVID they are not doing that right now. If you like glass art and functional glass creations, stop by to have a look. It’s easy to access off the highway and to get back on.

Visited the Art Barn with two of my daughters best friends ...they started with an acrylic pour paint project and before we knew it we were all making reversible masks and lanyards too! Spent the entire afternoon there...Beth is an exceptionally talented artist and teacher ...the girls were constantly engaged and I was so impressed on how quickly they learned to use the sewing machines...the giggles were endless and hearing the laughter in such unprecedented times was priceless...so grateful to have had the opportunity to share the afternoon with Beth and Mona Lisa...looking forward to more artistic fun at the Art Barn in the near future!

Always wanted to tee it up at Balfour and finally did the past week, what a view what a course and what layout. the course was in excellent shape considering it had recently been punched. Anytime you have a few hours to spare tee it up,you won't be disappointed, even with a bad score.
