We were staying in a nearby apartment. It was a very nice walk across the large dunes to the cliff over the beach. There was a long stone and cement staircase down to the water. It was high tide, so we satisfied ourselves by sitting on the lower stairs watching an amazing sunset. Nearby, a pipe was stuck out of the rocks and water came out of it. A man came down the stairs with two gallon jugs that he filled at the pipe. He said it was excellent water. We tried it and agreed. We survived to tell the tale!

It's a funny old lighthouse that you can't actually get inside of in a very secluded area. The weather wasn't great when we went but on a better day the views from the cliffs could have been quite special.
There's a trail around the outside of the lighthouse that leads to the cliffs. Worth a visit on a sunny day.

My mother (age 72) and I went on a 2 hour tour down the River Mira from Vila Nova de Milfontes, with SW SUP and had a wonderful afternoon. The instructor was really friendly and helpful, and pointed out lots of interesting things along the way. The scenery is beautiful and the river one of the cleanest in Europe. It was incredibly peaceful and a lovely way to spend an afternoon. SUP is easy to learn and it doesn't take long to feel comfortable and confident.
We also hired SUP boards at the beach in Vila Nova de Milfontes on a couple of occasions, which was good value and a fun way to spend an hour on the beach. My 4 year old loved sitting on the front of the board as we paddled to the sand bar and a little way along the beach. He was provided with a life vest, but he didn't go in the water until he jumped in.
I definitely recommend SW SUP, they were friendly, professional and enthusiastic.
