As you travel through Nairobi National Park's 45 square miles, you'll find it hard to believe that you are in a modern city. The city's skyline in the distance, is the only reminder. The park is teeming with wildlife, all protected by aircraft overhead and discreet armed guards. You can expect to see lions, rhinos, buffaloes, giraffes and many others animals and birds, roaming in the grassy plains under the occasional acacia tree. If you don't have time for a full scale safari, when you visit Kenya you'll be glad you visited Nairobi National Park.

The Trip is Fun. If you want to just see the turbines, do not go all the way to Corner Baridi, just drive up to the Turbines...But where is the fun in that? Turbines are boring. Go for the Hike. Entrance Fee is KES. 200 per adult head. Do not Bring kids for the hike, you will curse them after the first hill. Carry Snicker Bars and Water, not Soda and Crisps/biscuits. Have Light Sweaters even on a sunny day. It gets quite windy once you get to the Highest Point (hill 4). DO NOT be misled, there are more than 7 Hills and Serious Climbs and Descents. Have light sShoes with good grip and Start off Early. Around 10am is the best time to start the hike when the sun isn't beating down on you too hard. With a good pace and no breaks, it will take you 3 hours from Corner Baridi to The Turbines. There’s no need for armed escort if you are a group of more than 5. Carry loose change to buy beads from local kids and support them. Quite friendly little fellas. If you have vertigo, stick close to your partners, there are some places you will wish you never went for the hike. The Views are breath taking along the way. When Starting off, use the phone masts as markers or targets. There are no directions once you pass the check-in gate. Do not try to use maps me or those fancy hiking apps...waste of phone battery. Speaking of Phones, Carry a Good Camera. There may be Buffaloes along the way but do not stop to ogle at them, they don't like it. Keep Moving. DO NOT LITTER THE FOREST.

This remarkable geographical location and natural resource is one of the largest gazetted forests in the world fully within a city limits. It covers an area of about 1,000 ha (2,500 ac) and today is a shining example of how country-based corporate social responsibility and individual philanthropy can serve to secure and protect a country's natural resources. We are a family of five and not big museum people however we spent just over 1 1/2 hour here. We did on our first day arriving to Kenya ( maybe time of year & day ) Friday @ 10am but the place was filled with kids on school trip, didn’t bother us if anything it added to the experience as lots of the kids were fascinated with my very pale kids ... the school kids wanted to say hi , shake hands & take pictures with my kids. We started our Safari the next day and this was a great way of getting a quick history of Kenya so that we were ready and knowledgeable for what lay ahead. We said no to the guide and that suited us as we didn’t want to go slow. There was lots of information written in English beside the displays which was perfect amount of info for us. We also went quickly through the snake house ... one of the workers took out one of the bigger snakes and I got great pictures of everyone with it.

Karen Blixen Museum, located 10 km outside of Nairobi, "at the foot of the Ngong Hills", is the former African home of Danish author Karen Blixen, famous for her 1937 book Out of Africa which chronicles life at the estate. The house was donated by the Danish government in 1964 to the new Kenyan government as an independence gift and was opened to the public in 1986, following the popularity of the 1985 movie, Out of Africa, multiple Oscars winning film.
