What to do and see in Maspalomas, Spain: The Best Places and Tips

July 14, 2017 Dorsey Hagwood

Maspalomas is a sophisticated beach resort… that happens to have a great waterpark. Aqualand Maspalomas is the Canary Islands' largest waterpark, with 33 waterslides. If that's not your style, just relax on a beach with powder-soft sand and majestic dunes, or enjoy abundant shopping and golf.

Lovely place to walk or just laying on the beach.
Dog friendly place.
Sometimes, especially in the afternoon can be very windy.
You can walk to Maspalomas ( around 1 hour) and make there a camel trip:)
The weather in March was unbelievable!
We didn’t except 27 degrees!
We highly recommend this lovely place.

Playa de Maspalomas

If your visiting Gran Canaria, you really need to make sure you visit! This was one of the most memorable parts of our trip - such amazing views and an unique experience that you won't forget.
It is though, a very tiring walk up and down the sand dunes, so prepare for the long walking and muscle strength needed to get up and down the steeper areas! You can walk where ever you like, but to see the best views you need to be at the top of the sand dunes!
It can also get quite windy - you'll find your clothes full of sand at the end of the trip, but everything is so worth it. You'll need an hour least to visit here and take in all the sights.
I would advise to be careful and abrupt when walking to the beach - there are quite a few foreign 'sales' people who seem a little dodgy, and try taking money off you for making you a bracelet which they basically force and tie onto your arm - we fell for this and they were demaning 5 euros for a piece of thread.
Also, beware that this is a nude beach!

Strandpromenade Meloneras

Reviewed By Timothy B - Lucerne, Switzerland

Based in Meloneras our beach is peaceful and located by a closed shopping centre which makes the whole area more casual and relaxed
Walking along the path towards the lighthouse was an eye opener starting on a well made path looking down over the cliffs and then you enter resort land with giant hotels and shopping
A good link path to the dunes but a reminder why I do not like resort hotels

After being to Loro Park in Tenerife previously, this park felt expensive, however, one has to consider the welfare of the animals, and clearly this park takes that seriously, they all clearly love and look after the animals.
Our visit was a really enjoyable experience, and the Dolphin Show was excellent.
It is really best to make a whole day of it, and explore the complete park, that is where the added value is, seeing the plants and Fauna, esp the Cacti and Orchids was wonderful, and the Butterflies were superb.

We stayed nearby in late November and had superb, warm sunny weather. This beach was small but very clean, with a few bars and restaurants very close. We walked right along the coastal path to Maspalomas, which was a really scenic walk and not too unmanageable, even with arthritic knees!
