What to do and see in Maidstone, England: The Best Sights & Landmarks

December 16, 2021 Timmy Ribble

Maidstone is a large, historically important town in Kent, England, of which it is the county town. The River Medway runs through the centre of the town, linking it with Rochester and the Thames Estuary. Historically, the river carried much of the town's trade as the centre of the agricultural county of Kent, known as the Garden of England. There is evidence of settlement in the area dating back before the Stone Age. The town, part of the borough of Maidstone, had a population of 107,627 people in 2011. There has been a shift in the town's economy since the Second World War away from heavy industry towards light industry and services.

Leeds Castle

Considered one of the most romantic castles in England, this historic site was originally the stately home of the Saxon royal family during the reign of Ethelbert IV in 856-860.

Absolutely lovely all round, the staff are very polite friendly and knowledgeable, the gardens and grounds are beautiful, the castle is very interesting there's a visual display showing how it was and how it changed over the years, the falconry/bird show is very good then you can go face to face with the birds behind the maze, the children's play areas look good but we did not have kids with us so didn't go inside them, boat ride and train ride ok, less mobile folk will love the land train from car park to near the castle.

All Saints The Parish Church of Maidstone

One of the most beautiful churches that I saw in Kent. Inside is beautiful and full of history. Part of the church faces the river... the walks around there is breath taken... the views from the top of the church to Maidstone Medway are Romantic...the graveyard and grounds are beautiful... the architecture is a classic British .. the church was builded in rag- stone material. The bell tower is lovely with a nice clock.

We visited this lovely little farm to visit the pear tree that we are renting. The farm is lovely to walk around and staff are friendly. My son loved helping to feed the ducks and seeing Nigel the Pig. Well worth a visit!
