Loreto (Spanish pronunciation: [loˈɾeto]) is Peru's northernmost region. Covering almost one-third of Peru's territory, Loreto is by far the nation's largest region; it is also one of the most sparsely populated regions due to its remote location in the Amazon Rainforest. Its capital is Iquitos.

I came here in July 2019 travelling alone around Peru. I wanted to experience the Amazon jungle but was on a reasonably tight time schedule (3 weeks) so couldn't stay for too long. I found the experience to be one of the highlights of my trip and met some great people too. I actually ended up staying for 2 nights/3 days which I would recommend as 1 night simply isn't enough. I found the experience to be authentic and our tour guide was really knowledgeable about the forest and the animals there. The whole thing feels flexible which suited me, with the guide offering us a range of activities which we could do during the mornings and afternoons. We got to complete jungle treks, swim in the river with dolphins, visit local animal sanctuary's and even visit some local tribes. I would definitely recommend this for anyone travelling to Peru who wants to see the rainforest but who might not necessarily have the time/funds to complete a longer expedition. I am a 25 year old male.

All beds have mosquito nets, rooms have all your basic amenities such as wardrobes, toilet, shower and balcony. The showers are cold but you’ll appreciate that in the humid environment! The food provided by the lodge was fantastic. It’s all sourced locally and is very healthy. We ate different kinds of fish with fresh vegetables such as plantain. I was planned to visit the property in December but given visa issues had the cancel last minute. Not their fault, mine. But the lodge had a cancellation policy that should have awarded me back $1000. I've been chasing them for 2 months....first, the accounting person is on vacation (I waited), later they only do returns through Paypal (I opened an account), lastly, they stopped ansering... bottom line - they stole $1000 from me and I can't seem to be able to get them to pay it back.

We were able to get two times to visit Machu Picchu--one was one a beautiful sunny afternoon and our guide was able to really explain everything. The other time, we were the first ones on the site at 6am, but the clouds were so dense and low, we were unable to see anything--but it was really cool being the only ones there.
