Top 10 Scenic Railroads in Urubamba, Cusco Region

May 21, 2022 Franklyn Hardiman

Just its location—in the Sacred Valley of the Incas—makes Urubamba sound like a mystical, magical place. The snow covered Ch'iqun mountain stands proudly in the background of this Peruvian town that serves as a base for people who want to visit the famous ancient Incan ruins of Machu Picchu. Zip lines and horseback rides let you experience this valley in the Andes in wildly different ways.

After a 10 day Traveling adventure with a group through another traveling group, my friend and I opted for a private tour of Rainbow Mountain! Unfortunately it snowed on the day we reserved our tour; however it was one of our most enjoyable days due to the kindness of our guide Richard. He was very informative regarding the history and culture of the area and people. We were able to see some beautiful sites on the way to and home. We met some local folks, stopped by a lovely place to eat Los Cabanas and have coffee. The food was awesome!! Richard took some beautiful photos and was patient with us when we wanted to stop to view some sights/alpacas!! The time with Cusco Holiday Peru Servicios Turisticos was one of our most favorite and memorable!! Thanks for such a wonderful time and adventure!!

We decided to visit the Nazca Lines and Ballestas Islands on a relatively short notice. In spite of this, Derwis and Vilma took action and made all the reservations within 24 hours, and communicated with us constantly to make sure we knew what was going on at all times. The trip was well-organized and everything went according to the itinerary. Paracas, where we stayed, is a beautiful city. At night we dined at some of the restaurants by the seaside and enjoyed relaxing and pleasant views and walks. The food was superb too! Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this memorable experience! - Hannah and Juan.

My husband and I returned shortly from our trip to Cusco and were well taken care of. Luis our point person reminded us daily about our itinerary and touched base with us after our tours ended. Every day we had different tour guides, but they were all very patient, knowledgeable and polite (Fabricio to Sacred Valley, Ceasar to Maras and Moray and Eder to Machu Picchu). I thought the price was amazing considering that it covered transportation and lodging. If purchased separately we'd end up spending slightly more. The hotel in Cusco was nice and a short walk to the town center. The hotel in Aguas Caliente was very nice but our room was the size of a closet! Overall, we enjoyed our time. Luis left us with a very thoughtful gift before we departed (a doll I was looking for). I definitely recommend Andean View Travel especially for those who want a thoroughly planned trip. This package did not leave much room for self exploration, perhaps you can add a day or two before or after if that's what you'd like.

Many people make the famous Sacred Valley tour, but not the hike. In Chincheros village we have an original Inca trail that connects to Urquillos village, which is already the Sacred Valley of the Incas. this experience totally very different from the normal sacred valley. make it your lifetime experience with us, nothing is impossible, we offer adventures without limits.

Because of Covid 19 we needed to cancel our trip. I contacted Fredi about getting a refund but was unsure whether MLA would send us back our payments or if they would even survive what must have been many cancelled tours. I was pleasantly surprised when Fredi refunded our money. I imagine not all tour groups have done that for their customers. I very much recommend MLA and I definitely will be re-booking a trip with them in the future.
