Cwmtydu Beach

Reviewed By JohnMMonmouth - Monmouth, United Kingdom

Sunday 8th September 2019. Family of 5 (ages 21 to 64). This is a gorgeous little cove. You reach it (assuming you are driving and not doing the coastal walk) via narrow lanes, proceed with caution. There is parking (limited) at the base of the hill you drive down to reach the cove. It's famous for its seals and we did see some in the bay and whilst taking a short stroll up the cliff path to the right as one faces out to sea. We also spied some decent sized jellyfish on our walk! It's a lovely spot and well worth a visit.

Da Mhile Distillery

Da Mhile (pronounced da-vee-lay) is the UK's first organic micro-distillery and the producer of the first organic whisky in the world. We have been producing high-quality artisanal spirits on our organic farm in West Wales since 2012. Our first product 'ORANGE 33' is an organic orange liqueur that won a True Taste Award for its very first batch! Our second product, Da Mhile Botanical Gin is highly regarded by gin aficionados and is made with 20 botanicals. We also make a salty, unique seaweed gin using locally-sourced seaweed. Vodka, whisky, rum and brandy are all in the pipeline. Distillery tours and tasting sessions are available by prior arrangement.

Tucked away quite a way down an attractive lane you come across an old farm which is home to a fascinating whisky distillery and cheese makers. Everyone was very friendly, informative and knew their products well. Compared to distilleries in places like Islay this is tiny (one very small distilling room) but their story and how the gin and whisky is producted was no less interesting. There were plenty of gin samples to taste but few whisky ones as production is currently quite limited and in its infancy - all of which were very interesting. The whisky and gin may not have been cheap to buy but this is a specialist distillery and prices seemed fair to us. The Dutch lady who talked to us about the cheese was again really informative, amusing and interesting and there was a good range of welsh cheeses to taste - from very mild to extremely strong. We bought some cheese to take to friends later that day who also really enjoyed the 3 varieties that we had bought. It was great to visit something that was small scale and owned and run by people who were passionate about what they were creating.
