New West Theatre

My husband I went to see CELEBRATE 30 years on Weds Dec 18, 2019 and I loved it so much I want to go see the production again next week with our son who will be visiting from Toronto. This comedic musical tour down memory lane was a great way to kick off the holiday season. The Yates Theatre has been beautifully renovated. It was our 4th visit in 7 years and every time we go I wonder why we don't have Season passes! The CELEBRATE show was clearly a labour of love by the dedicated directors and cast of this theatre group. I have seen shows in Montreal, New York, Stratford and Niagara on the Lake ON and New West is impressive by all standards. There is so much talent but I was especially wowed by Rylan Kunkel. His performance on the saxophone was so entertaining and only surpassed by his piano solo which was incredibly special.

Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden

Peace, tranquillity and friendship await you at the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden. The gem of Southern Alberta is celebrating it's 50th year with cultural activities and the very best omotenashi (hospitality) every day. Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden season officially begins Saturday May 13th and the season runs to Sunday October 8th. Enjoy the Lethbridge Japanese Garden from the first spring blossom to the final autumn leaf.

During the internment of Japanese Canadians during the second world war, Lethbridge Alberta was considered a 'safe' place to confine them over 70 years ago. When the war ended, and many had no other homes to return to, they stayed in Lethbridge and a thriving Japanese community was built in this Southern Alberta city. The Nikka Yoko Japanese Gardens are a beautiful example of the artistry of what a Japanese Garden could be. A balance of trees, shrubs, arrangements of rocks, pagoda's, quiet sitting area's situated to 'hear' the babbling brook, a giant bell that when rung is pleasantly relaxing as opposed to jarring...this is a beautiful showcase of Japanese artistry. Worth the 2 hours spent there.

This is a lovely picnic park, lots of tables, and lots of trails and playgrounds to keep the family entertained. The gorgeous Viaduct is also there to gawk at - it's a truly amazing bridge. It also borders on the Old Man River, and on our recent visit, we were thrilled to see small group of American White Pelicans there. Well done Lethbridge! We also enjoyed seeing the horses that they are keeping at the adjacent Fort Whoop-Up.

A great place to go with my family to let our dog burn off his energy. Sometimes a bit smelly as the water treatment plant is very close, but hey, it's part of the Lethbridge experience!

A real gem! This park is located just off Lethbridge's major commercial road and hotel zone, Mayor Magrath Drive, as well as several other attractions. Parking is free! Yay! It's a beautiful artificial lake, with a nice trail going around it. For COVID, they have made it a one-way loop walk, and most (but not everybody) complied when we did our little walk. We also saw that they have permanently propped open garbage can lids, so people don't have to touch them to put away their waste. If you're in Lethbridge, no excuse for not visiting!

We love learning about the history of an area we visit and this is a great place to start when coming to Lethbridge. It's a beautiful building with gorgeous views all around. The hands-on activities in the Discovery Hall were fun for our boys ages 7, 11, and 15. The gift shop had really neat things, and we enjoyed a cup of coffee and the view from the little cafe area. The grounds are nice to walk around on the trails. You can even walk down to Fort Whoop Up and the Nature Center from here.
