What to do and see in Kiruna, Norrbotten County: The Best Things to do Good for Kids

September 14, 2021 Diedre Savory

There is much to do in Kiruna for both outdoor adventure seekers and city dwellers alike. Given its close proximity to the Arctic Circle, Kiruna is a winter wonderland for skiing, snowboarding, dogsledding, ice fishing and snowmobile jumping. Its location also means nonstop sunlight in June and July and easy access to Kebnekaise, the highest mountain in Sweden. Kiruna Kyrka, the city's old church, is one of the largest wooden buildings in Sweden.

Dog Cuddling Experience - fantastic. Lovely people, lovely dogs, lovely experience. We started in a kennel with 8 or so 4 year olds. Our guide was very clear that we don’t enter the kennel until the dogs have settled down (part of their training) so when we walked in it was completely relaxed. The dogs were so well behaved and so comfortable around humans. We stayed and fussed then for a while before being shown how to massage them and relieve any muscular stress which the dogs loved. We were then told how they meditate with the dogs to help them with their behaviour and relieve mental stress. These dogs were so clearly loved and looked after. Then we were taken to the puppies for more strokes and play time. They were 4 months old and living with their mother, already really well behaved. With an open door one by one they came out to eat before running round and playing in the open space with us. Lastly, we went to a wooden cabin for fresh coffee and cinnamon buns. A few dogs joined us around the fire for more strokes before we got back in the van and head home. Unfortunately no Northern Lights were visible but of course that’s not in control of the hosts. Our host and the owner were very nice people abs very accompanying. We really enjoyed being there and would 100% recommend.
