It is accessible by train from Tokyo to JR Kazusa Kameyama station, but from there must take a taxi. JR line to go to Kazusa Kameyama is very limited number of service, so must plan very well, otherwise you will end up waiting for hours at the station. Not sure how far neither how expensive. The ideal way to get there is drive on your own. From the city of Kimitsu, one passes BOSO Skyline, nice and relaxing view. Another advantage of driving on your own is one can also visit surroundings of this fall. We spotted small hidden temple on the hill; extra treat for us.

亀山ダムによって作られた千葉県最大のダム湖で、ダム湖特有の複雑な形をしています。紅葉の名所なのですが、シーズン以外はそれほど混雑していないようです。周辺は遊歩道が整備され、ハイキング、サイクリング、ボートを楽しめますが、冬の訪問だったのでアウトドアは少々寒々しい感じです。お勧めなのは亀山ダムの放流なのですが、放流日が限定されているので、事前にチェックしておかないといけません。

フォトジェニックスポットで人気上層中の濃溝の滝の近くにある道の駅です。
あまり広くはありませんが、近郊でとれた野菜等の農産物販売所とレストランがありました。
たまごが有名のようで、入り口に山積になっていました。
レタスとトマトを買いましたが、食感があって新鮮でおいしかったです。

When I came here, I saw a sign written in Japanese.
"If you pray at Oku-no-in (inner sanctuary), you will be able to improve your ability of sports, health of your legs. Your kids will be able to run faster than before."
So, I walked up to there, and I found something. There were two "Tengu" - a kind of Japanese God which has a long nose and red face. And such big clogs! I thought definitely they runs so fast.
Though I don't have such large foot, anyway, I prayed to them.
九十九谷公園訪問がてら、鹿野山神野寺に立ち寄ってきました。奥の院の天狗たちの表情がユニークでよかったです。
彼らのように大足でも子供でもありませんが、早く走れるようになるかな？

Almost 70 years ago, a man hiked up Mt.Kano and painted a picture. His name is Kaii Higashiyama. The title of the painting was "残照" which means "Afterglow". After that, this work brought him the special prize at the largest competition art exhibition in Japan. He became one of the most famous land-scape painters in Japan.
You can see a magnificent view of "Kujuuku-tani" which means 99 Valleys from here.
If it's possible, early morning in winter may be the best view for taking a picture.
You may see the sea of clouds.
It was the second trip for me to visit here. I drove here before noon. Though it was still cold and a bit cloudy, I found the buds of the cherry trees were swelling. That eased me a lot.
東山魁夷の出世作「残照」ゆかりの地である鹿野山の九十九谷公園に再訪しました。同じ冬場とはいえ時間帯が昼前だったせいか、夕映えや朝靄といった視覚効果は得られませんでした。
絵に描かれた遥か遠方の山並みが無いなど、実際の景色との微妙な違いが気になったのですが、画家が過去に訪問した様々な山々のイメージを重ねたものであったと後に知りました。九十九谷をもとに、こころの中の風景を描いたのですね。
膨らみかけた桜のつぼみが、寒さを和らげてくれたようでした。

名水で有名な久留里の町。国道410号線沿いを車で走ると、人だかりのできている水汲み場がいくつか目に入ります。空のペットボトルを用意し、いつも水を入れて持ち帰ります。恵まれた良水でつくられた日本酒も合わせて買い求めています。

最近話題の亀岩の洞窟を見に行ってきました。朝がいいとかお彼岸の時がいいとかいろいろアドバイスはありますが、人間がこれを手堀りしたという解説に驚きました。
きれいな水と緑がいいバランスです。

マザー牧場の近くにある鹿野山は、標高は高くないものの山地が続く典型的な房総の山で、それぞれ標高３５０ｍ～３８０ｍの白鳥峰、熊野峰、春日峰の３つの峰からなっています。かつてはそれぞれの山頂に３峰の名を持つ３つの神社がありましたが、現在での残っているのは白鳥神社だけ。山頂手前に神野寺が、山頂付近に九十九谷展望台があります。

久留里駅から徒歩15分ほどで城の入口、そこから舗装されていますがかなり急な坂を上ります。結構きついです。その代わり一の丸からの景色は最高です。天守閣は完全に再建された新築ピカピカですが。
