This is a very old and well preserved national park full of interesting fauna and perfect for some lovely walks. There is a small visitors center where you can learn a great deal about the area.

The guided tour begins with a film about life at the fortress in the middle of the 19th century. Suddenly viewers are drawn into the exciting film and led through dark vaults and twisting passageways into the old fortress on a guided tour with plenty of adventure and special effects. The moat caponniere has an interesting exhibit with authentic settings from the 1860s. See the commander's home, with a cannon in the parlour, the secret restaurant and the vault of the National Bank, filled with hundreds of gold bars. You can also have a closer look at the commander's office, Bulta-Majas restaurant, and part of the armour. The adventure tour at the Karlsborg Fortress lasts about one hour and 45 minutes. Ticket sales and start for guided tours: The shop Fastningsboden at the fortress market square. Parking: lots outside the fortress, please follow road signs.

Enormous fortress that had no use except burning tax payers' money, due to technical progress overtaking slow construction of the limestone building. About 400 soldiers are still on duty in the fortress. Several parts of the fortifications are used for the museum (open 10 am) and the guided tour (from 11.15 am). I'm not a huge fan of the Swedish guided tours as they like to put the emphasis on a whole family experience except of sticking to the bare facts. Nevertheless, want to give special credits to the guide Mavea on her maiden tour in the fortress as a guide for her assistance in 3 languages. Job well done and thanks again.

Så klart vatten och så vackert! Perfekt för både småbarnen och de som vill fridyka. Det är inte ofta man hittar badställen som detta som inte ligger vid havet...

This is forgotten little back water and has some charm for a short visit. There is even a little beach if you want a swim. Beware the water in lake Vettern is seriously cold, but sometimes on hot days it is not too bad. Shallow for a long way which is good for beginners.

We have been coming for years, often by boat and morning in the tiny harbour. The fish used to be smoked on the edge of the water but unfortunately the times change and now everything happens in a slightly more controlled environment although they still sell from the old shop.
Nonetheless the fish is unbeatable. Expensive but melt in the mouth. They also do a prawn roll with salad, egg prawns and mayo. Eaten on the picnic table next to the water on a hot summers day and life dissent get much better.

I went there on a combi-ticket.
But honestly: I could have saved that money for the museum!
Only the guided tour is an absolut must = kindly see my other review!!
All the explanations are only written in swedisch = so I just walked thru...
You are able to see the church with the museum-ticket = but that church is nothing exciting or fantastic.

Ombo öar är en del av Vätterns unika sötvattensskärgård. Grovhuggna granitklippor och vindpinade tallar kännetecknar Valekleven och Ombo som är en del av den fantastiska Tivedsnaturen. Missa inte ett dopp i Vättern vid Djäknesundet norr om Granvik och har du möjlighet sök dig ut till de klippiga Ombo öar som är omgivna av Vätterns kristallklara vatten.

Groot informatie centrum van de stad Karlsborg. Ondanks vriendelijk verkregen informatie toch besloten door te varen. Deze Stad kan ons niet bekoren. Afgezien van het kasteel Is er weinig bezoekwaardigs te vinden.
