Cerro Las Nubes

Reviewed By Karl G

Cerro Las Nubes or Parque Natural Las Nubes both describe the top of the highest hill next to the town of Jericó. It is most easily accessed from the teleférico (cable car) which starts on Morro El Salvador (the hill with the Jesus statue) and goes up to Cerro Las Nubes. The cable car costs COP $8000. There is a restaurant next to the cable car terminus. The park has some trails along the top of the ridge with great views. None of the trails are marked, and there is no map, but you are unlikely to get lost. I think it is the best thing to do in Jericó.

Catedral Virgen de las Mercedes

Reviewed By Sebastian D - Lugano, Ticino, Switzerland

This is a Cathedral - a big church. No excitingly beautiful ornaments or stuff like that. A lot of people come here for religious reasons - no wonder as Jerico is the birth place of the only saint of Colombia, Laura Montoya Upegui.
The Cathedral was built quite a while ago, but got destroyed around 1940 and was rebuilt with modern techniques afterwards, but lacks the usual pompous ornaments of other christian churches. If you pass by the town (which by itself has more charm IMO), give it a visit, if you are very religious, do the same.

I spent a recent afternoon touring the gift stores and wonderful leather selections in Jerico. This area is noted for its fine leathers as well as handmade China. It’s a totally delightful way to spend the afternoon visiting the many quaint shops along with coffee shops and sidewalk bars. Jerico is a great experience.

A nice little museum easy to visit in a few minutes time. The building itself is a lovely, restored colonial and the collection is small but varied. It was very enjoyable. A small fee is charged.

Cristo Redentor Jerico

Reviewed By UnconventionalRoute - Vancouver, Canada

The walk up the hill is not strenuous at all and only takes maybe ten minutes, so wear whatever you want. Better yet, most of the walk goes through Jericó’s botanical Gardens, which are an attraction in their own right.
And the view of the town from the top is actually better than it is from Cerro las Nubes.
This should be first thing you do upon arriving at Jericó (…after you check into your hotel, duh.) For a complete guide on Jericó, including locations of the town's many artisanal foods, info on "The Coffee Farm at the End of the World," and where to stay and eat, google The Unconventional Route's travel guide to Jericó.

I had a wonderful visit here. Did a hike to the Waterfalls and passed through coffee fields and views of surrounding Mountains. Also saw wildlife like birds, squirrels and colorful insects. The owners were very welcoming and offered drinks and bananas to eat. The tour included lunch and it was delicious. Their dog Draco came to the hike as well and he's awesome. They picked me up from my hotel, and they were late but their service made up for it. I was glad to practice my Spanish as well. Thank you all from Nohelia for showing me part of beautiful Jerico.

If you want to stay right on a coffee farm, stay at La Nohelia.
About fifteen minutes outside of town, La Nohelia’s spunky owner John Wilmar built a beautiful eco-pyramid treehouse out of local materials: guadua (Colombian bamboo), coffee tree wood, and rocks from the nearby river. It’s quite the site to behold.
The pyramid’s interior is not as gorgeous as its exterior. The rooms are pretty basic with shared bathrooms below, but it’s fresh, friendly, and certainly unlike any other place you’ve ever stayed at
At Nohelia you can hike to nearby Waterfalls, get a tour of the coffee farm, hang out with John Wilmar and his family, eat some coffee-sauce chicken, drink a lot of delicious coffee, and enjoy even more peace and quiet.
