A l'abri de la Tempete Microbrewery

A l'abri de la Tempete believes in maximum use of local raw materials in the creation of its beers. We started by using locally malted barley, then moved on to harvesting and using fresh flowers, marine algae and herbs. We use locally-grown ingredients to brew our full-flavoured, distinctive beers. Guided tours, boutique and beer pub on place.

We sat outside in a wide area that is COVID adjusted for distance. Plenty of space here and we could have gone further on the beach also - loved the outside terrace with ocean view. We did not sit inside although there is a nice area on the second floor; we sampled the Double Daffy (favorite), St-Crème, Cale Sèche, Vieux Couvent and Terre Ferme and really nothing disappointing here, all equally well done and with character, easily one of Quebec’s best microbrewery. Two beers was about $14 taxes included. There is a boutique counter inside where you can buy beer for take away at about half the price of sitting down in the outside area. Highly recommended stop on Les Iles. Five stars for whoever came up with the name “Double Daffy” ⛷

Musee de la Mer

The mission of the Musee de la Mer is to preserve the movable heritage and the intangible cultural heritage and increase the knowledge of the history of the archipelago and the heritage and the culture of the Magdalen Islands, from the angle of identity of these maritimers by actions of preservation, research, development, distribution and education. Delighted by my visit at the Musée de la Mer recently, outstanding museum that can be quick to visit, or you have the liberty to dive in for more information, it has a little bit for everybody. Divided in two main rooms : the first one holds all the answers to the islands’ history through the ages, really well made. Second room is for temporary exhibits. When I visited, it highlighted an artist who walks the beaches and either reconstruct animals with their bones, or creates original art with those bones. Very original stuff. Lastly, the hall between the two rooms holds the story of how they rescued the carcass of a whale that got stranded at Pointe-Aux-Loups, very well presented. Friendly bilingual staff, permission to take pictures everywhere for social media and clear instructions for COVID policies make this museum an essential if you visit Les Iles. Highly recommended.

This beautiful vista is an epic sunrise location! Located in Ile du Havre aux Maisons, the sun rises directly adjacent to the lighthouse and illuminates the skies with pinkish and orange tones. There's a beach below the lighthouse which is easily accessible by a set of stairs. The whole area is free to access and both the beach and lighthouse have respective parking areas. They're both free of charge but the view is definitely worth the visit! There's a wooden fence at the parking area of the lighthouse and it's not recommended to trespass as you're stepping onto private property - everybody does it, but, you've now been warned! A MUST visit! Highly suggest going for sunrise, you'll most probably be alone to soak it all up!
