What to do and see in Hokkaido, Japan: The Best Gift & Specialty Shops

October 21, 2021 Joeann Galban

Hokkaido (北海道, Hokkaidō, literally "Northern Sea Circuit") (Japanese: [hokkaꜜidoː] ( listen)), formerly known as Ezo, Yezo, Yeso, or Yesso, is the second largest island of Japan, and the largest and northernmost prefecture. The Tsugaru Strait separates Hokkaido from Honshu. The two islands are connected by the undersea railway Seikan Tunnel. The largest city on Hokkaido is its capital, Sapporo, which is also its only ordinance-designated city. About 43 km north of Hokkaido lies Sakhalin Island, Russia, whereas to its east and north-east are the disputed Kuril Islands.

Somes saddle Sunagawa Factory and Showroom

Our Sunagawa factory/showroom is located in Sunagawa city, in the middle of Sorachi Plain between Sapporo and Asahikawa. We are creating our products surrounded by nature, feeling the seasons with about 700 trees we planted here. Between spring and fall, our horses are put out to pasture in the central yard. We share the pleasure of crafting with the locals by holding events such as horse-back riding and leather item crafting. While we keep searching for the possibilities that come from ‘craftsmanship’ and ‘community’ here at home, we will continue our effort to build relationships and communicate with our customers all over the world.

Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse

Reviewed By macandtrips - Los Angeles, United States

I would highly, HIGHLY recommend visiting the warehouses after the morning market and walking there along the waterfront. The view is nice, and the streets are spacious. Arriving there near noon time, we didn't really encounter too many people and found a nice corner for cake and coffee. Really nice place to take a breather and recharge for a bit.
