Guisborough Priory

We were doing a fab little treasure trail around Guisborough, which finished at the war monument, just outside the entrance to Guisborough Priory. We had a couple of hours to spare and noticed that the Priory was free entry to decided to have a quick look around to take a few photos. We were really pleasantly surprised to discover a lovely little set of gardens! We explored the priory ruins, which didn't take very long at all, but then saw a little pathway going off into the woods... We followed this and just kept discovering more and more little areas in the gardens. It was so much fun to explore for us two adults, and kids would have great fun here I think. From majestic trees, pretty flowers, a fairy garden, bug house, wooden carvings, moss covered stones, jumping logs/stepping stones, benches etc etc. So much to see in the gardens. Considering entrance is free there is no excuse not to go! although donations are welcome as the gardens are only kept open and in such great condition by the hard work of volunteers.

The Ship Inn, Guisborough

A traditional English pub!! The bar staff and licensees are very friendly and you always get a warm welcome. There's a good selection of beers, lagers and ciders on draught and the cask ales are always well kept. Live bands on a Saturday night are very popular and the atmosphere is fantastic. There's open mic night during the week and a couple of quiz nights. The Sunday dinner is fantastic value for money with ample choice of meats and desserts. The Ship Inn is by far the best pub in Guisborough.

Guisborough Forest & Walkway Visitor Centre

Reviewed By LauraT404 - Middlesbrough, United Kingdom

We parked near the Visitor's Centre today - £2 parking for upto 2 hours, £4 parking for all day. The carpark is a short 2 minute walk from the Visitor's Centre. The cafe next door to the Visitor's Centre looked like it was opening up, just before 9am this morning and when we walked past again a couple of hours later it looked to be quite busy, with lots of outdoor seating areas allowing to socially distance. The toilets, however, are still closed all day as far as I am aware. The paths are very popular with dog walkers, cyclists and runners, so always best to keep your eyes open. There seem to have been some new information boards put up over the past couple of months? and some new wooden animal carvings. The older sculptures also seem to have been given a coat of varnish, as look to be in much better condition than on our last visit. We enjoy the many trails through the beautiful forest, whatever the weather! as the paths are very good, even after a lot of rain they are not slippy or too muddy - although always best to wear sensible shoes. There is a large play area for kids, plus a smaller area for younger children and a trim trail for adults. There are a couple of ponds with boardwalks and a small nature reserve. There are several picnic areas and many benches throughout the forest. Along the main path, as you walk past the Visitor's Centre and the train into the forest, there are dozens of lovely wooden sculptures - we seem to find a new one every time we visit! We also like that there are many pokestops and gyms here too! As most sculpture has a pokestop attached. So a great way to fill your pokebag.

Came here for a drink with my friend as we’ve not seen each other for a while. Great atmosphere, reasonable priced drinks (stay away from doubles it is expensive) Rosie and the other young lady who were on the bar were passionate and attentive. Will be back soon!
