Recently I have been visiting the Cat's Whiskers, for breakfast, lunch and cakes. Really can't fault all of the dishes I have tried. The traybake cakes are particularly good. And a very friendly lady who always seems to be working (called Nicole I believe) is very friendly and efficient. Definitely will be returning!

My husband and I visited here last night with friends for his birthday meal. Sadly we were disappointed with the experience.
The friendly staff showed us to our table which was cramped in the corner. In fact, it was so cramped that three people had to stand up and move in order for me to visit the toilet.
We ordered drinks and browsed the menu.
The place was decorated beautifully and was filling up quickly. Fortunately, our friends had already attempted to look at the menu online so knew exactly what they wanted. After placing our order we waited patiently for our starters. These appeared over an hour later. We were starving at this point.
I ordered the mozzarella di Carozza and they kindly used a tomato based sauce instead of the advertised creamy mushroom one on menu. Why is it that every restaurant thinks vegetarians like mushrooms???
The situation of getting to the toilet deteriorated as the place got busier. Climbing over friends was like an assault course which was bad but once I'd managed that I was shocked to see only one toilet by the bar and two people eating!! This cramped but beautifully decorated restaurant had one toilet to serve all guests and staff. This made things unbearable as I had to wait outside the loo, trying not to listen to the guests that were having their meal as climbing over my friends was not an option.
Once at the toilet, there were paper towels on the floor and urine on the floor.
I realise the staff were busy but checking on the facilities should be be done by the hour.
Once back at the table, now in fat burning mode according to my fitbit watch from the assault course and stressful wait, we waited for our main meal.
I ordered a spinach and ricotta cannelloni. One of the advantages of this place was the vast vegetarian menu so I was spoilt for choice...
This took another hour to appear and wasn't worth the wait. It had clearly been in the oven but was sloppy like soup and full to the brim with onions. I was devastated. Their menu did not say that it containers onions. In fact, I've never had a cannelloni with onions. It remained untouched after one mouthful.
I'm aware I'm a fussy eater and should mention that two other people were disappointed with their food having ordered chicken that was dry and a seafood pasta that tasted unusual.
We later found out that the chef was working on his own in the kitchen which to me was bad planning. How can he take pride and cook everything? The place was heaving so definitely worth investing in the staff.
Basically our evening was spent in a cramped corner of a beautifully decorated place, cold in temperature with one filthy toilet but was full of hardworking polite staff.
We certainly won't be visiting especially when we have to make our own snack once we got home.
I'm giving three stars for staff only. Based on food and experience I'd give two.

We have sampled this restaurant a few times now.... Couple of times we have eaten in. Service has always been great. Food fantastic... Great choice... We have sampled something different every time and never been disappointed..Food of a really high standard, and really reasonably priced. We have also used as a takeaway, and found the standard of food just as good. Overall, I think this is the best indian cuisine locally.

Virgo's

Reviewed By Kat W - Saltburn-by-the-Sea, United Kingdom

Having visited Virgo's about 12-18 months ago, the lunch I experienced was a little bland to say the least. Not one to judge a place on one visit, I had the opportunity of visiting again for a much needed cup of tea and cake. These things are sometimes a necessity.
Once again though, the experience was overall, underwhelming. The cake, a malteser cheesecake, whilst it looked pretty and inviting, and was a good portion for the £2.95 price tag, was sadly a little flavourless.
The same can be said for the peppermint tea. A regular teabag without a string and label, I'm not sure which brand it is they use, but it was less than minty, and completely unheard of, I actually left a fair bit in the teapot.
The service was polite enough, but the place was empty and staff were just sitting down for their own dinner. Whilst it can't be helped that a cafe/bistro is empty mid-afternoon, and I know staff members have to find time for their breaks, it all just felt a little uninviting, I'm sad to say.

We dropped in for a bar snack as a late lunch. Plenty of choice of sandwiches, panninis and more cooked meals. Service was slow considering there were only 5 people (2 tables) waiting for their meals - almost 25 minutes waiting for a couple of panninis and a Sandwich.
The meals were good value at less than a fiver per plate. Service was somewhat erratic - the waitress didn't know which pannini was which and had three goes at service them! The bar was warm and cosy but we were near the fireplace, not close to the open outer door. We will return and perhaps we'll allow extra time for the service.

I'm a regular at Costa visiting numerous stores as I love the coffee but not impressed with this one.
The best thing was the service but the place was scruffy and unclean.
Most free tables were full of rubbish, I found a clear one only to find d it was dirty.
I love lots of strong coffee so always get a bucket full (large) this is the first time I've ever left any! The mug wasn't full even when I added the milk and it was so strong it was horrible, at £2.60 I was not impressed!
