Greinburg Castle

Time well spent in this attraction. What amazed us was the total wall and ceiling of the room all in mosaic painting. Some other room was with another design of diamond illusion ceiling.
More surprises for anyone visiting the castle. The furnitures were made for the royals. The rooms wide enough for a banquet. Everything was fascinating. Breathtaking.

Burg Clam

Reviewed By Susanlynn53 - Fair Oaks, California

This castle which was built in 1149 is open and the tour is hosted by the Count. He isn't allowed to be called a Count any longer due to rules but his family has lived there for 500 years or 6 generations. You walk up a hill into a court yard and are met by a knight in armor and go up into a tower which is lined by animal heads. Very old world. We had wine and a demonstration on fighting by two knights. We saw some of the counts residential apartments and it was very beautiful. Great way to spend a few hours.

Mostbirnhaus

Reviewed By Russell S - Sydney, Australia

On our stop off between Vienna and Salzburg, we took the Westbahn train to Amstetten (about €16 from Salzburg or about €26 from Vienna) where we stayed with some Austrian friends. They drove us to Mostbirnhaus brewery as a local recommendation. We arrived by car, I don't know if there's any public transport to here, but when we did, we paid the €8 entry fee to complete the self guided video tour of the factory. It was really fun, well executed and I felt it was worth the money. At the end, we had taste testing and it was good. We had fun and recommend travellers visit here if they are looking to escape the masses of other tourists in Vienna or Salzburg.

Historisches Stadttheater Grein

Reviewed By Deb T - Bribie Island, Australia

If you happen to be visiting the very picturesque little town of Grein , you must explore this incredibly authentic little theatre. It's life as a theatre began in 1790 but it was the city hall prior to the final assignation as a playhouse. The remarkable fact about the theatre is that the community throughout the ages have agreed to keep the theatre in its original state. Therefore, the wooden seats whilst not cushioned as those in modern theatres, have been polished smooth by the many derrières that have perched upon them. Certain front row seats were once owned by wealthy town members and could be flipped up and locked between Performances - private seat. A box containing some of the seat keys hangs on the wall. A very intimate venue that would allow a total capacity of about 160 the theatre includes a small round balcony overlooking the main seats below. What was once an earth closet on one side of the theatre in enclosed by a red velvet curtain - patrons who had a call of nature could relieve themselves and still hear the performance! Once inside the foyer, there are several stairs leading up to the theatre itself. Performances are still held in the theatre several times a year. Interior decoration is appealing and common for the period during which it was revamped .

St Giles Church

A Roman catholic church of Saint Giles located at the heart of the small square close to the Stadttheater and a hotel.
The area confined together with the docking point of tourists cruising the Donau. Most tourists do not miss this beautiful old church in Gothic design. the interior is equally beautiful with the stained glass windows. Worth a visit.

Stillensteinklamm Wanderweg

Reviewed By Ronald W
