What to do and see in Glastonbury, England: The Best Tours

January 15, 2022 Vivienne Hutton

Generally a quiet place graced with lovely terrain for strolling, Glastonbury is very busy in the summer because of its music festival. Best known for contemporary music, the festival has attracted almost 200,000 people in recent years (whereas Glastonbury's full-time population is only 9,000 or so). There are a number of historical monuments to see in the area, including Glastonbury Lake Village, Glastonbury Abbey and the Somerset Rural Life Museum. We can't say that the weather is always good, but on a sunny day you can't go wrong!

Tor’s Tour of Stonehenge is unlike any. The way he shares his visions of a world hardly known by historians is as if you are being transported into a timeless dream and seeing the ancients magically erecting the stone circle and aligning them to the solstices and equinoxes in person. He then takes you to a very special site that is only visited by 1% of tourists, here you can walk amongst 5000 years of history and imagine their motivation of creating such amazing sites. After a great British pub lunch, we head off to Avebury, the largest surviving stone circle in the world, a site where you sit in the seat of the ancient Arch Druids and learn about the stars in the way they taught. You will not forget this day in a hurry, travelling through time with Tor’s magical vision of delights.

Discover Glastonbury, guided by the trees. We'll take a meandering walk around Glastonbury's beautiful countryside, taking in some spectacular views and enjoying some places of outstanding natural beauty. Your tree guide, Matt, has a keen knowledge of the local trees, he has walked around this area for over 7 years and can provide some personal insights into the landscape, tourist sights, activities, idyllic spots and he'll take you to meet some of the oldest and largest trees in the area. We also spend time sitting in quiet spots with wonderful views, to rest, listen to the sounds of nature, and enjoy a private acoustic performance of gentle folk music by Matt. This is an exciting opportunity to discover Avalon guided by a local musician. Matt has a range of interests and is keen to make conversation on topics such as nature, creative inspiration, spirituality, mythology, bardic tradition and the magic of Avalon. Let's walk to the trees.

Lovely way to become familiar with the trees, and within the magic of avalon. The walks are relaxed and Matt is great at explaining the different ways of identifying the trees. Bonus that the company of the group was really enjoyable. Thanks!

Our time together begins outside the famous Glastonbury Abbey. From there, we will follow the old pilgrims path to the Scared Thorn tree of Joseph of Arimathea.  Your journey then proceeds on a mysterious path along Faerie lanes, through the Jesus field and on to the Orchards of Avalon. This is where we ask permission to enter the sacred enclosure. Then we head to the very top of the Tor itself. On the summit, your guide tells the tale of Saints, Kings and the Faerie folk who dwell there. At the top of the Tor you are left to sit in silence for a moment to embrace the healing energy of this holy place. After that we come together in a healing ceremony, connecting in circle to share our thoughts, to say what you felt or to just BE!  On our way down to the White Spring, the candle lit water-chapel beneath the Tor, I leave you at the the Chalice Well Gardens World heritage site.

This full day tour of stone circles was nothing short of absolutely incredible. Jeremy White is truly amazing- his complete knowledge of the area, history and full blown stories were literally mind blowing. Connecting you to the land, it’s past - you drop completely into a sense of self in the present, all the while understanding the past. Blessings, meditations and enlightenment is only a couple of so many experiences you will have along the way. We also joined Jeremy for one of his evening storytimes through Airbnb We tried another well advertised tour guide in the area who unfortunately just wasted our time Jeremy’s knowledge and sharing of this stretched far and wide on so many spiritual and historical levels Can not recommend Jeremy enough for a truly authentic Glastonbury tour guide.
