Museo Historico Regional de Gaiman

Reviewed By Conrad N - Whitstable, United Kingdom

The museum is housed in the old railway station of the town. It is full of artefacts from the original Welsh settlers of the area, including items they brought with them on the sea crossing from Wales.
Very interesting and moving, very much worth a visit.

Capillas Galesas

The Welsh chapels are fascinating and well worth a visit. You need to ask around before you go to see if you can contact someone to open up for you. The museum in Gaiman is a good place to start. You need to speak Spanish or Welsh as English doesn't work at all well in this wonderful but remote part of the world.

We stopped at several locations in the Gaiman area on our tour from our Cruise ship. The history of the Welch people as they settled this area is interesting and well worth a visit.

Museo Primera Casa de Gaiman

This house, which is now a small museum, is the first house built by first settlers when they arrived from Wales. It's nothing magnificent, especially for me who know Wales and the Welsh people very well. However, I understand that Argentine people see this different, as it may be their first ever 'contact' to Wales and it's history.

Bryn Gwyn Paleontology Park

This place is awesome and hardly visited. You walk through stunning desert-like scenery, following a trail that takes about 90 mins, and see lots of fossils still in situ. As you go further, you climb upwards so the layers of fossils went forwards through time, starting with the earliest near the start of the trail. They have highlighted some of the large fossil remains (dolphins, penguins, whales etc) and protected them by putting glass pyramid cases over them. At the top there were loads of marine things - layer upon layer of shells - amazing. We also saw several condors flying pretty close above our heads! The guy running the place was awesome and happy to chat with us for ages despite our poor Spanish. Bring sun hats, sunscreen and water - there's no shade at all. We took a taxi here from Gaiman and walked back - would recommend the taxi back though unless weather is cool as it was a very hot, dusty walk!

Museo Antropologico

Reviewed By STEL74 - Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina
