April 21, 2022 Vivienne Hutton

Cathedral of St. Bartholomew (Dom St. Bartholomaus)

This historic cathedral served for 300 years as the site of coronation for Holy Roman Emperors.

The St. Bartholomew Cathedral tower is well worth climbing for the views of the old town, the Main river & greater Frankfurt. The viewing platforms are at a height of 66 meters and are reached via a long stone spiral stairs. Hard on the legs as there are no stops along the way. Well worth it though for the amazing 360 degree views from the top. The descent is easier.

Very fun place to visit. Within a few blocks there are plenty of places to eat and shop. I visit here every time I'm in town on business and try to hit Saturday for wine tastings just a couple blocks from here. Nice little cafe in the building on the left. Lady there makes great treats and good coffee. Next to them is a store that sells little gifts to take home and accros the square is a place I like to get my beer and a dog. Walk across the bridge to add your lock to the collection.

St. Paul's Church (Paulskirche)

This church is where Germany's kings and emperors have been crowned since 1253.

Reviewed By Barbs25 - Staffordshire, United Kingdom

well worth a visit, not your average German church at all. Its all set out in the circular shape - lot of information, history and art on the outside and inside the actual church part its very simple and modern. Almost feels like a lecture hall with lots of seating in rows with desks. Free entry too
