My husband, my two best friends and I had the lovely opportunity to spend a beautiful day exploring Takayama with Miyako. She was so knowledgeable and took us to places we wouldn’t normally have gone to. The food we got to try was everything we wanted to try from Japan and then some! We also got to see an amazing Sake brewery and experience the delicious libation all while learning of the culture of Takayama. Miyako was everything you would want in a tour guide. She was friendly, knowledgeable, funny, and adorable. She was incredibly personable and she took some amazing pictures for us. Highly recommend this tour. It exceeded our expectations!

The itinerary was as exactly what I had expected out of the tour - efficient conduct and punctual to the core. The multilingual audio tour was informative and provided quite a comprehensive background information prior to arrival at each tourist attraction. The day was especially glorious with blue sky, hardly any cloud in sight and with plenty of sun - couldn't have picked a better day myself to go on this tour. Don't expect any commentary in English by a tour guide or even a guided tour because there is none - that's what the headset provided at the start of the tour is for and this tour is pretty much free and easy, provided you adhere to the time specified by the tour guide. There was 1 thing on the itinerary which was clear - at Lake Shikotsu, entrance to the ice festival was out of pocket. That didn't bother me that much as the scenery on Lake Shikotsu did plenty to keep me occupied. I enjoyed myself so thoroughly this trip that I had forgotten to obtain the tourist stamp at each attraction - only remembering to get one during my last stop at Mt Usuzan. Oh well, it's better than nothing.

This tour never happened, because the tour guide never contacted us to coordinate an official meeting time and place. I emailed and called several times, but heard nothing in response. So, our group met at the departure point at the first available time slot listed on the tour description, just to do our due diligence. That was a waste of time, as you can probably imagine. We had to change our plans, which is always a "fun" thing to do when you're only on vacation for a week.

And you can eat freshly landed fish at restaurants where only local residents can go.

What a great idea. Our guides were local graduate students who gave us a unique (and entertaining) look at Kanazawa. Knowledgeable, enthusiastic and good company. We had hoped to do a "behind the scenes" tour of the nighttime fishing wharf when the catch comes in and is sold. Darn that Typhoon! The fisherman stayed home because of high seas, so instead we got a tour of nighttime Kanazawa, which we really enjoyed.
