What to do and see in Canton of Ticino, Swiss Alps: The Best Wineries & Vineyards

May 27, 2021 Deane Carmody

This Italian-speaking region in Southern Switzerland is on the border with Italy. Bellinzona is the capital, and Lugano is the most important city in the canton, known for its beautiful waterfront, steep hillsides and gorgeous lake views. Castelgrande is a lovely medieval castle overlooking the city that has recently been restored. The Centovalli Railway is a scenic train that operates between Locarno, Switzerland and Domodossola, Italy, traveling through the breathtaking "Hundred Valleys." Lake Como is nearby, the home of People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive,” George Clooney.

Brivio by Gialdi Vini

Gialdi Vini SA was founded in 1953 by Guglielmo Gialdi, father of the current director Feliciano. The wide range of Gialdi products consists of two lines. The Gialdi Line proposes above all Sopraceneri wines, obtained with grapes purchased from over two hundred winegrowers from Bassa Leventina, Riviera and Valle di Blenio, who have been cultivating the vineyard with passion for generations. The Brivio Line concentrates instead on the production of wines from the south of Ticino, also these vinified starting from the grapes supplied by about eighty winegrowers in the region. The company has about thirty labels of fine wines produced in full respect of these two spectacular terroirs and enhancing their typicality. The company that in 2016 has been certified with the ISO 22000 quality mark has obtained, thanks to the commitment aimed at producing high quality wines linked to the territory, important recognitions both nationally and internationally.
