Engadine Museum

The Museum of Engadine Culture was built in 1906, on the initiative of Riet Campell, a passionate collector. It looks at first glance like an age-old Engadine house. The outside has all the typical features: the sgraffito-style door and window frames, the Romansh inscriptions, and the traditional oriel window. In fact, the house is little more than a hundred years old and was constructed as museum by the famous architect Nicolaus Hartmann Junior of St. Moritz. The panelled living rooms, or stüvas as they are known locally, have come from farmhouses and village houses in the Engadine and surrounding valleys. They give you a wonderful insight into the lifestyles of affluent local families over the last five centuries.

St. Maria Himmelfahrt Cathedral

Reviewed By 610Lobita - Geneva, Switzerland

The Roman church is impressive; it contains very interesting ancient paintings and beautiful pieces of work, two splendid altars from the fifteenth century (one at the end of the wooden choir and the other inside the church crypt). But I would like to tell about a sort of curiosity; on the inner wall on the left side of the main entrance door you will read a name, "Jürg Jenatsch", and on the opposite corner (to the right) you can see the blazon of a noble family, Von Plantas. These two elements have inspired a fantasy movie by Daniel Schmid ("Jenatsch"), whose main character crosses the border between present and past while visiting this region. The movie deserves to be seen if you get the chance to find a DVD in some library!

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880–1938) lived in Davos from 1918 until his death in 1938. Davos and its surroundings inspired him to a large number of important works. The Kirchner Museum Davos offers visitors the remarkable experience of viewing the art of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner in the place it was created.

Berry Museum

The Berry Museum, housed in the century-old Villa Arona in the heart of St. Moritz, is dedicated to the doctor and painter Peter Robert Berry II (1864 – 1942). In the course of forty years, hundreds of compositions are created in charcoal, pastel and oil, from miniatures to impressive winter panoramas. The complete oeuvre, including music, poems and philosophical essays is preserved at the Berry Museum. High-resolution digital imaging allows for phenomenal perspectives.
