Calgary Farmers' Market

The Calgary Farmers' Market is the largest market of its kind in Calgary and one of the city's favourite year-round gathering places. The Market advocates for progress and growth of small local business by providing a year-round space for local farmers to sell their product at the height of each natural harvest.

Katie Ohe is an Alberta treasure, and she has a new exhibit at the fabulous Esker Foundation Gallery. Kids will absolutely love many of the exhibits, as you are encouraged to touch and set some in motion (others are not to be touched). As a UofC alumnus, I was familiar to see the stunning "Zipper" statue, but I didn't know how many cousins it has, every one gorgeous. I would say: If you haven't been to Esker recently, just go! I've never experienced a dud here!

Contemporary Calgary

Contemporary Calgary is contributing to a global city of choice by engaging Calgarians with the art of our times through exhibitions, distinguished speaker series, outreach and education programs.

I was so glad that Contemporary Calgary has reopened under the new COVID protocols - it would have been an utter loss if Calgarians wouldn't have been able to take in their current Yoko Ono and Omar Ba exhibit. The admissions are still reasonable at $10, and the $20 membership still gets you in free all the time. The Yoko Ono material was stunning, and a bit overwhelming. I'll have to go back to really experience all that was there. Omar Ba was also fascinating, and would have been worth the admission to see as well. Bravo to Contemporary Calgary for keeping this spectacular place open, showcasing world-class modern art.

Stephen Avenue Walk

Calgary's only pedestrian mall, Stephen Avenue features a year-round pedestrian experience featuring shopping, restaurants and entertainment venues. It is home to: • 5,000 to 10,000 people per hour in peak times • Live performances, buskers, music, festivals, artists and culture galore • Nine major shopping centres/department stores • Some of Calgary's finest restaurants, pubs, cafés and bars • An eclectic mix of boutiques and galleries Stephen Avenue Walk is managed daily from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm by the Calgary Downtown Association on behalf of the City of Calgary.

Reviewed By BenLar137 - Calgary, Canada

When Calgary is in the grip of a cold snap like it is currently, people don't linger on Stephen Avenue Walk, but all the restaurants and attractions on it are still easy to get to. There is quite a lot of indoor parking nearby, and the Plus 15 elevated interior sidewalk system crosses over it and parallels it as several points. By day it is closed to vehicles and in anything but the worst weather, still a nice promenade. After 6 pm, it is open to vehicle traffic and there is some street parking. On our recent visits to downtown Calgary, although we didn't walk its length, we were able to admire it from several vantage points.
