Where History Comes to Life - Stroll down the streets of our 1920s community. Period costumed townsfolk welcome visitors and give demonstrations in the homes, businesses and shops. Visitors can feel the heat of the fire as the blacksmith works at the forge, hear the rhythm of the platen press at the Burnaby Post, smell freshly ground coffee in the General Store, be a 1920s student in a one-room schoolhouse, watch the tinsmith cut, crimp & curl flat sheets of tin into useful household items. Everyone is welcome to take a ride on the 1912 CW Parker Carousel, explore the restored 1912 Interurban Tram, and enjoy a treat in the Ice Cream Parlour. The Village is open seasonally (Spring Break in March, Summer Season- early May to Labour Day, and Heritage Christmas-late November to early January) and year-round for pre-booked groups and programs.

Love to ride the old-fashioned merry-go-round at Christmas, and wander the Village in the Summer...Several years ago we booked the church for my daughter's wedding! It was perfect!

Burnaby Mountain (where SFU is located) is the best little mountain in metro Vancouver for hiking and mountain biking. Lots of trails that lead all the way to the inlet, up and down for a good workout and with a university and a great restaurant at the top. You can park on a city street or the top, either gives you ready access. Plenty of trail maps and as long as you stay on the trail, safe. Be aware that this is bear territory so be smart.

I used to Play their Pitch and Putt Golf Course, for when I was in Therapy we'd often go there to walk around the Trail's. They have a Horseshoe Pit there too by the Swimming Pool. Fish are in the pond, the one located by the Pool.

This is a lovely open, airy building that makes a perfect coffee stop if you’ve been walking around Deer Lake Park, visiting the Burnaby Art Gallery (a very short walk to the centre) or going to the Burnaby Village Museum (across the street). There’s a nice little coffee bar just inside the entrance that serves drinks, baked items and sandwiches at very reasonable prices. Tables and chairs are adjacent, or you can head to the other end of the building where there’s a seating area overlooking the park. Much of the art in the central portion is by Jack Shadbolt, a painter who spent the latter part of his life in Burnaby. Other areas of the building have rotating exhibitions. There are two theatres in the centre, but it seems to be primarily a teaching facility, with studios for dance, music and art. Lucky Burnaby! Wish there was something similar where I live.

I found that during my visit to SFU for a conference this week, my eyes were always being drawn upward. The view from pretty much anywhere on campus looking outward is amazing and world class; overlooking the city, seeing the mountains, seeing the river; top notch. The buildings on campus are intriguing, as others have noted, and seem to come alive at night time; the lights and sky make the greyness of the concrete take a back seat to the design and statement of the buildings. I found myself always looking up at the flow of buildings and the roof over the Convocation Mall and the sky and the trees and the Academic Quadrangle and so on... Some quirks; if you don't know where you're going on campus, find a map or ask someone - you can walk for hours here (in a very pleasant setting). I was at a conference, and the SFU Food Service team did an amazing job of serving 600+ people a warm meal at pretty much the same time! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were tasty and enjoyable. AV Support staff also went out of the way to ensure each presenter in each room had no issues. Kudos to all! Currently (Spring/Summer 2018) there are a number of renovation and new-build projects going on. Very interesting place to visit; wish I'd had time for more wandering around!

Great location by water for walking on level, wide paths. Easy to keep distanced. Nice views of Indian Arm, Deep Cove, and passing boats, paddle boards, ships.

1. It’s not a luxury mall. It’s more casual and fun, great for families with kids as there’s quite a few toy or kid stores. If you do want more luxury items, a place like park royal in west van or the airport outlet might be better :) 2. Yes it’s overcrowded, beware of that. The crowds are not bad if you’re used to them, but I do understand how it can hinder your experience. For parking, I definitely recommend immediately looking for them underground. There’s normally near no parking above, and underground MIGHT be easier to find because it’s all connected. 3. There isn’t a lot of eating spots- most food is in the food court, which yes, is mostly Asian or fast food. However, right across the street from the main entrance (the side with the superstore entrance and movie poster) is a lot of restaurants- sushi garden is definitely a good one for any sushi lovers out there :) It’s a casual mall with not a lot of specialities- I think the most special part of Metrotown is how many different Asian cuisines and shops you can find- a lot for hem are quite unique. For example, currently there’s a shop on the floor above ground level selling anime and manga goods, as well as a Chinese styled shop selling cute figurines on the main floor right next to Uniqlo- the likes of which I’ve never seen anywhere except for actually in China. Also lots of Asian brands like mini so and Uniqlo that are quite unique :) Lastly, for people without a lot of Asian markets, I would definitely recommend going to T&T to pick up some Asian snacks. It’s a good experience, both cheap and fun :) Hope you all enjoy coming to Burnaby!
