Aggtelek National Park

I visited the Rakoczi cave in Bodvarako. I suggest you book appointment in advance as the number of people in a group is limited. We were lucky as we had no appointment and the tour guide also did the tour for only 2 people. But he mentioned that sometimes many people try to enter at the same time. You can take pictures without buying an extra photo ticket. There is a lake inside the cave, and the stones are very special, also what is interesting that this cave was a mine before so you can also see some parts of the mine. Be prepared that there are many steep stairs and ladders and if you are afraid of heights maybe better skip this. Wear boots or trainers and a jacket, it is cold 10 °C. To me this cave is the most special in the Aggelek National Park.

I absolutely loved this castle and the fairy garden around it. We went for a horse racing too just next to the castle. I especially liked the hungarian folk dancers show here.

Miskolc Zoo and Culture Park

Miskolc Zoo and Cultural Park opened on 20th August 1983. Our zoo is located in a 21 hectare hornbeam-oak forest connected to the Bükk National Park, this way we can also present the rich flora and fauna of the Bükk Mountains. Written records prove that King Louis the Great had established a royal game preserve in the Csanyik valley in 1355, therefore our zoo is considered to be Hungary’s oldest animal holding place. The zoo is home to around 700 specimens of nearly 130 species and varieties. Visitors can also meet the residents of a typical forest of the Carpathian Basin, the exotic animals of far away continents and native domestic animals that have become curiosities nowadays. Besides presenting animals to visitors, we would also like to draw attention to the small wonders of nature surrounding us. An educational pathway was created for this purpose to exhibit the natural values of our immediate environment. Our zoo also takes part in international breeding programmes that have made it possible for animals extinct in the wild to survive in zoos. A unique initiative was to establish a conservation statue park with life-size bronze statues of animals commemorating the species’ that became extinct as a result of human activity. Our zoo endeavours to join in the popularization of conservation and animal protection and to help environmental education reach all ages, especially the rising generations. The forest environment of Miskolc Zoo is an excellent place to make friends with nature.

Castle of Boldogko

This castle was the starting point of the recent Trail run we participated, so we also took the opportunity to look around before the race. We had about 30 - 35 minutes, which was enough to walk up to the castle and visit this interesting place. This is only partly renovated, but worth to visit and learn the history, enjoy the great view from the walls. We also enjoyed the friendly and warm welcome from the staff, and good wishes for the race,

The original Rakoczi Kastely (Rakoczi Castle) with adjoining museum is a must for anyone visiting Sarospatak, Hungary who want to see and learn about it's history and importance to area development. The castle, surrounding grounds and Bodrog River views are a special treat. In addition, be sure to also walk through nearby castle park, the rose garden, the canopy covered tree lined shopping/restaurant street and hillside walking paths along the river. This masterful renovation is a tribute to Hungarian pride in its past.

Hanging Gardens of Lillafured

It was establioshed in the 1930th. The ‘thematic’ walkway in the hanging gardens joins the Szinva educational trail, and enriches it with its nine stations. The stations are connected to poetry, poets, natural scientists and love, while the natural and artificial elements of the environment are also duly highlighted.

Lillafured was such a nice experience all around. We started with coffee inside the hotel where we met the nicest barista, Eva, and enjoyed a delightful treat with coffee. Then we walked around the entire gardens including the hanging gardens and waterfall, then back to Hamori Lake for a rowboat ride. We spent about 3 hours in total with teenagers! Lovely!
