What to do and see in Algarve, Portugal: The Best Shopping Malls

June 3, 2021 Natalie Tallman

The Algarve's sunny shores offer perfect escapes for all types, from those seeking the hot nightlife of flashy, energetic Lagos to those desiring secluded stays in rambling Sagres. Portugal's most southerly region offers historical attractions in former Moorish capital Silves and fascinating Tavira, great golf, fabulous beaches from Praia da Luz to Armacao de Pera, thermal springs at Caldas de Monchique, and miles of limestone caves and grottoes, cliffs and bays along its rugged coastline.

MAR Shopping Algarve

MAR Shopping Algarve, the second IKEA Centres shopping centre in Portugal, opened on October 26th, 2017. The new shopping centre in Loule opened its doors to welcome visitors from all over the Algarve, Alentejo and the south of Spain. It is the first project in the country that combines a shopping centre, an outlet and an outdoor leisure area with 8,000 sqm, and 3,500 parking spaces.

A new, modern and excellent shopping mall in the Algarve region, near the beach of "Quarteira" and the "Marina de Vilamoura". IKEA is the anchor store and many other important international brands have branches at "Mar Shopping Algarve". Cinemas, supermarkets and restaurants complete the scene. Plenty of parking places and even valet parking is available. Fast food brands are there, as well as fine restaurants. While in Algarve, and having some free time, I strongly recommend a visit to this cosmopolitan mall, probably the best one in Algarve! Enjoy!

In Guia for a month over Christmas and new year. First week the weather was poor so used thge MAL to occupy our time. Some good places for a snack lunch in the Food Court and some good bargains in the shops particularly C&A. Multiplex cinema showing all of the latest movies. Good variety of stores and the Continente supermarket is big, very well stocked and great for food shopping, good value. Would really reccommend for those days when you are at a loose end

For a small city with a population of around 170,000 inhabitants, it was quite a surprise to find such a superb shopping mall as "Fórum Algarve" in Faro! Just off the city center, the mall has plenty of parking places, large corridors and an excellent variety of shops. Its food court averages to the best ones I've ever seen. Anyway, I don't think you came all the way down to Faro to visit a shopping mall, as they are just about the same all over the world. But, staying in Faro for a few days, I had enough time to visit "Fórum Algarve"and, not surprisingly, did some shopping and even dined! Enjoy!

While we could buy fresh produce and fish at the market just across the road from our Airbnb at Convento das Bernardas, we did our major grocery shopping at the Continente in the Gran Plaza, a mere 3 minutes drive. There were quite a few other stores in this plaza such as clothing and shoes but we didn't shop for those items. There is free underground parking.
