The Angel Inn

The Angel Inn has been totally refurbished over the last 18 months, our bar is warm and inviting, soft bench Seating, in wools and tartan create a cosy, informal area. The dining area is rustic, modern and intimate with atmospheric lighting adjusted to the mood, traditional wooden furniture with contemporary twists add to what we hope will be an enjoyable dining experience. Real ale, Doom Bar and Butcombe and local ciders are complemented by our excellent wine list, of which we serve a good variety by the glass. Our gin selection is growing, well appreciated with Fever Tree mixers and Fentimans is among our non alcoholic beverages on offer. We serve good pub classics, fish & chips, ham, egg & chips and a superb burger with home made chilli jam, our scotch eggs are a must! In addition we offer an a la carte menu and specials including fresh fish are advertised on our blackboards, ice creams and sorbets are homemade and our menu is gluten free wherever possible. Sundays we offer a set menu, which includes two roasts, one of which is beef. Our bedrooms are finished to a high standard with beautiful bathrooms fitted with walk in showers. We offer a guest suite which enables a family to stay in two adjoining rooms, with it's own private access for greater privacy and relaxation. Just a few minutes from Longleat Safari Park & House and easily accessible for Bath, Salisbury and Wells, the Angel Inn is well situated for easy access to many local attractions.

We tried the Angel on Burns night. As we had already had Haggis at the weekend, we decided to try the other option, which was Kedgeree. (There was a vegetarian option, but I never eat that.). Sadly the Kedgeree was what I would call deconstructed, eg, the rice curried, with a smoked piece of fish on top, plus a poached egg on top of that. So too modern for me.

A very well run place with really friendly staff who make you feel totally at home. Pizzas were excellent - good size, decent but not overpowering on the toppings, relatively authentic base. Pasta Ok - nothing special. Sides generous in size. Being used too taking the kids to chains with vouchers the price stung a bit, especially the cost of kids meals, but that trade off is inevitable to support a local business and have the luxury of being able to walk from home, enjoying a drink and no travel costs! Will be back for the Wednesday buffet which I'm sure will offer great value.

The Bath Arms

The Bath Arms at Crockerton on the Longleat Estate in Wiltshire is under the care of chef Dean Carr, formerly of The Ivy and Bishopstrowe House. Although The Bath Arms is a truly excellent gastropub, it’s clear that Carr respects country pub traditions. You can expect a warm welcome, open fires, relaxed atmosphere, beer garden, and familiar dishes. But you can also enjoy modern comforts, professional service, fine beers and innovative meals, too. Signatures include starter of fishcake with Cornish crab and broad bean and main course of sticky beef with braised red cabbage. Beer festivals, Caribbean BBQs and other events liven this picturesque corner.

An early evening break from the kids (to catch our breath) while down from London in half term! Sat by the Woodburner which was great, we both enjoyed a couple of drinks from the bar just behind us. Pleasant and attentative young male staff. We both had the Fish which was very good and not greasy at all. Coffee to follow. We both left relaxed and well fed. Seems a nice place, has a far more adventurous menu (we didn't try so can't comment on) but we just needed a relaxing couple of pints and Fish and chips that evening - and we got it!

So good I had to write a review about it!! Four of us had a lovely long walk and I chose the Cross Keys as the pub in the middle because I like that it's owned by the community which I want to support.
We all had the nut roast option although we're not all vegetarian and I have to say - as a vegetarian cook, that it was absolutely excellent. The Yorkshire was perfect, the gravy sublime, the roast delicately flavoured and the potatoes perfect!!! The vegetables were tasty and perfectly cooked - overall, it was faultless. We loved it and the service was brilliant too. I'm tempted to give up cooking and have all my meals there!!! x

The Masons is now a bar/ bistro. The restaurant area is now has a great atmosphere with cloths on the tables and sparkling glasses and cutlery. The food was delicious appearing and tasting home made. There are some great two for one offers through the week at the moment. We were made to feel very welcome. It is definately worth a try if you are in the area. There are vegetarian options and a kids menu. We have been twice since it changed to a bistro and will certainly visit again.

Never judge a book by its cover.. this pub has rooms to stay in as b&b, and the proprietors have worked hard to make them boutique and comfortable. The book cover reference is that the pub isn’t the prettiest from the outside, and finds itself on the outskirts of the town, but it’s a good pub with contemporary decor, full bar and comfortable dining area.
Warminster doesn’t have much to offer, but the surrounding Wiltshire is full of sites and attractions. If you’re passing by, give it look.

Agra

Reviewed By Restless59 - Bournemouth, United Kingdom

Occasionally I stay in Warminster and have used a couple of the other Indian restaurants in town but decided to give Agra ago, as to be honest, been disappointed in the others.
Honestly the food was average: I chose a couple of my favourite dishes and perhaps i've been spoilt by the high standard I get back at home, because these dishes didn't come close to being the tasty ones I'm used to.
Decent portions and freshly cooked but bland in taste and I left much of the rice as it was quite simply worth bothering with. Shame as the reviews on trip advisor promised much but then as I said maybe I have set the bar high by my own standards.

To celebrate my wife’s birthday, we held a Sunday lunch, birthday meal for more than 30 people. We were able to have the whole of the main dining room to ourselves which was great.
The lunch was absolutely superb and most of our friends commented on the very high standard. The chef made a special cheesecake for dessert, which was equally very good.
The staff were excellent with the service and easily coped with simultaneously serving food to so many people.
As we had the main dining room to ourselves the PL let us decorate it with balloons etc which added to the celebratory atmosphere.
We have eaten at the PL before on a number of occasions and would thoroughly recommend for both quiet dinners and lively birthday lunches.

Pub With Rooms And Fabulous Food

Reviewed By James H - Maidstone, United Kingdom

There are many very good aspects to the accommodation with some nice touches, however its not 9.1, why..... I stay regularly in differing hotels, this property has converted accommodation so unlike other property's difficult to avoid noise from others accessing the adjacent rooms and light intrusion from under the door gives one the shadows when trying to nod off, parking is not inclusive and whilst not expensive when I question these two points I have to reflect I would not normally pay £100 for the night for somewhere that I would rate say 8 rather than 9.
Our room was spotless and clean , the breakfast was excellent , whilst the bar area looked great this was not sampled ..
