Eigentlich bin ich ja mehr für Hausmannskost, aber wer einmal im Schienfatt war, weis warum ein Besuch dieses Restaurants zu einem Besuch im Heimatmuseum gehört. Ich bin mir nicht sicher in welchem der beiden Häuser am alten "Neumarkt" mehr Altertümer lagern, schon das Haus selbst stellt das Gebäude des Heimatmuseums in den Schatten.
Ich kenne auch keine friesische Küche auf höherem Niveau. Für dieses Restaurant sollte man sich schon passend kleiden, und man wird bestimmt nicht "angeprollt".

This fish restaurant is pleasantly situated overlooking a marina, rather grandly titled Varelhaven.
The fish is well cooked, although the varieties are fairly limited (sole, eel, shrimps and smoked salmon), and served with a variety of side orders. For non-fish eaters there are the fairly standard German meat dishes, including pork schnitzel in breadcrumbs, beef steaks etc..,
We missed a trick in not going for the fish buffet which had pretty much everything on the menu available buffet style (and eel done donner kebab style on a spit which looked intriguing) but even so our food was good, and at a little over €70 for four adults and two kids was not badly priced.
There is a kids play area with a pirate ship outside, although the fence does not close it off from either the marina or the road so you have to supervise them closely, but all in all a pretty good spot.

rooms only little heated and our meals were average in taste, drinks are icecold as they should be, thats one plus. Not only mexican food, so you can decide what to eat. we don´t come back because of stomache pains "the day after"....

Would you like quality, friendly service combined with delicious food and great views?
Then this is the place for you....! This restaurant is very rustic with plenty of in- and outdoor places to sit. Staff just lovely and attentive, food plenty and cooked freshly, superb choice of main courses and great Deserts.
Excellent views over the see and with plenty to talk about, large numbers of real drawings and paintings on walls all over the restaurant.

The food is good and has been most times. However they aren't very good at keeping the food vegetarian. They put minced meat in those dishes, saying they are vegetarian.

It's unbelievable.. pretty much remote there's that little bistro just right at floodgate. Boats and little yachts are lining up and they serve amazing breakfast, lunch and cakes! The staff is really nice and the prices are really reasonable! They have an amazing playground for kids up to 14 years. Go there! You won't regret it! I promise.

Heute hatte ich mal Lust auf eine große Portion Fleisch. Da empfiehlt sich das Restaurant Dionysos mit seinen verschiedenen Grilltellern.
Das Fleisch war ausgezeichnet. Gebratenes Schweinefleisch wird schnell hart, wenn man es zu lange der Hitze aussetzt. Dieses Souvlaki war auf den Punkt genau richtig.
Das Personal ist freundlich und flitzt herum. Jeder denkt mit und ist gut organisiert. Natürlich musste ich Freitag Abend gegen 22.00 Uhr etwa 20 Minuten auf mein Essen warten. Aber das Restaurant war voll besucht und dann ist diese Zubereitungszeit nicht zu lange.
Der übliche Beilagensalat mit Krautsalat, kleinen weißen Bohnen, Peperoni und Oliven wird meistens mit zu viel Lake serviert und ertrinkt dann in Säure. Hier schmeckte er mir ausgezeichnet, weil anscheinend das Eingelegte gut abgetropft serviert wurde. So blieb eine leicht säuerliche Note, die ich als sehr passend empfand.
Ein Lob auf den Gaumen des Kochs!

We had to pay EXTRA for them to take the meat of the pizza. Very unfriendly, very poor quality. Would NOT recommend it at all!
