Great location.

The location is great. Wehad a room looking over the marina. It was spacious and seemed to have been recently refurbished. Everything was very clean and the staff were all very obliging and hospitable. I would have rated a five but was disappointed the restaurant was closed after 3pm. This meant we could not pop down to the bar for a drink or a coffee. (actually I tried to get acoffee at 2.50 before they closed but they had already shut up shop). I know there is a bar and restaurant about5 mins walk away but it is not at all the same as popping downstairs as you expect to do in a hotel. Covid i know but most hospitality places are now getting back to normal.

Great place for peace and quiet

Glad we booked for a few nights so we had time enough to beach comb and climb a few hills to see the sights. But remember to book with the low tides being the middle of the day in order to get around the rocky points. Fishing was good. The motel unit was supplied with everything you need. Two fridges! There are no nearby food shops or restaurants so you need to bring all your own tucker. When booking the motel informed us what our unit was fitted with. Car was given a covered park. Happy to return.

Fabulous Stay

What a wonderful way to start our vacation in New Zealand. We spent three nights at the Lighthouse Lookout B&B and wished we could have stayed longer. The view was spectacular and we loved our breakfasts out on the terrace. We did a full day tour with Brett and really got to see the area around Tutukaka. The other day we spent doing a snorkelling tour of Poor Knights Island. Highly recommend both.

Amazing food, service and room with spectacular views. We arrived to a bottle of bubbles and a cheese platter and left with chocolates and a full home cooked breakfast. The night was quiet and the room was immaculate. They catered for our every need. Amazing and we will return.

Ocean Purring Views

Beautiful surroundings but be prepared to shovel excrement (literally)

Reviewed By RoamingGirlxx

I'm reluctant to leave a bad review as I think the intention is good from the owners, and without doubt the views are spectacular and to be able to watch both moon sets and sun rises was fantastic, and I feel with more effort this place could be magical.... however..... Firstly, when I book "a chalet with private bathroom", while not expecting a lot for $64 m, I don't expect to have to shovel my own excrement into a hole and bury it. I have read and read again the description on Booking.com and nowhere does it say that the shower (which is actually communal) and toilet (which is little more than a bucket in a shed) are outside, and I really think this needs to be made clear. The "hut" was cosy, had an electric blanket and a jug, along with a massive ant family and the previous inhabitants belongings in the drawer. The ceiling light, one lamp and insect lamp were not working. The communal kitchen was grubby and not really inviting us to prepare food in there, and after braving the cold and shivering to the outside shower in a dressing gown, we discovered there was not a drop of hot water. We have spent years freedom camping, doc camping and doing the most basic of accommodation so are well used to roughing it but really this (particularly the toilet) was a bit extreme, especially when it is not properly explained in the advertisement. Sadly I feel I could not recommend to anyone.

The best presented older motel

Reviewed By J3697NNphilb

After having motelled our way around NZ, I can safely say this was the best presented and equipped motel. Clean, immaculately repainted, great shower with modern fittings, spacious and, unlike us if you are prepared to pay for the view, the view will be grand. If there is a downside it is the speed of traffic in the village. Don't let the kids or granddaddies wander on the road.

36 Steps to the Beach

Wonderful serene location...indeed only a few steps from the beach!

Reviewed By RucksackT

This B&B was wonderful. What a great location and the little bungalows were lovely and comfortable. They are on the small side, but we didn't find this problematic. To get there from the main road, make sure you really follow the instructions in the email as it's easy to miss the narrow turnoff. After that you follow the road and end up in an area with only a few houses and the smell of the beach. It was a beautiful location. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. You also receive a folder with detailed information about the surrounding area and what you can do there, and also some tips for where to eat. You can decide to drive to town or, tide permitting, walk across the beach to the town (this takes around 15 minutes). Be careful if you wear flip flops (as we did) because there can be some scrambling involved over rocks, especially when the tide is not quite low. On the way back this was much easier as the water had receded considerably. One minus point for the accommodation is that the shared toilet, shower and the kitchenette were all housed in one bungalow, so that made it a bit tricky if there were other guests.
