Bistro La Tupina

Reviewed By DGEKent - Kent, United Kingdom

TripAdvisor certainly came up trumps in helping us discover Bistro La Tupina, a tiny restaurant attached to Bodega Altus in Tupungato, near to the Chilean border. We'd gone for the tour and wine tasting in Catena Zapata and Bistro La Tupina seemed near enough to give it a try. We reserved a table but there was absolutely no need as we had the place to ourselves. Outwardly, the bistro looks little more than a shack, and indeed, we weren't actually sure it was open when we drove up. But the warm greeting from the chef as we entered, together with the delightful dining area, made it clear that all was set for what turned out to be the culinary highlight of our stay in Argentina. The food is served tapas style as a tasting menu with different Bodega Altus wines for each course.
Sitting in the lounge area, we started with spoons of green beans, lentils and beans, and foie gras with pear. Next came some delicious empanadas filled with cheese or meat. Following that there were slices of delicious, light Spanish omelette and various meats on toast. After sitting at the table, we had a succulent beef casserole and grilled vegetables. Finally, there was a duo of sorbets combining fruits with Altus wines. The whole meal took about 90 minutes and it was quite simply superb. The final bill including the four wines came to just 380 pesos (95 USD). One ward of warning: the restaurant doesn't take cards!

Restaurant Ilo

Everyone in Mendoza will tell you to eat at Ilo when you are Tupungato. Why? They have fish. What looks like a huge menu is just the same preparations for the several types of fish and seafood, over and over. Pricy, and decent without quite rising any higher.

Atamisque

El restaurante se encuentra en la finca del mismo nombre la cual cuenta con criadero de truchas y las mismas tienen la fama de ser las mejores de la Provincia de Mendoza.

We were charmed by our waitress who accommodated our very poor Spanish with her much better English. A trio of appetizers (two types of empanadas and a very nice ceviche) was followed by one of three preparations of trout (I had the smoked trout with a lemony mayonnaise) or ojo de bife. Both were well prepared and complemented with a large choice of wines. A dessert tasting with four items was more than enough. At 380 pesos, it was hard to beat.
This is not a fancy restaurant -- but, dining under the trees with temperatures that could not have been more comfortable, made this a lovely way to finish our morning of wine tasting.

Bodega La Azul

Our lunch was a fun experience over a lazy couple of hours sitting in a tranquil setting. It had been recommend by the head bar man in our hotel in BA. The initial welcome was so warm and friendly and informative that we immediately relaxed, despite having had no reservation. Our waiter had excellent English ( having spent time in New York) and explained each wine pairing with each of the five courses. It’s all cooked freshly and quite heavy on the meat but this is Argentina. There were potatoes, empanadas, sausages and then beef, chicken or pork mains....The pork was sublime and I was surprised that they do a mean tiramisu though the poached pear won the best dessert award. The wines are all produced by the owner who also farms other fruit. They did not skimp on the wine but provided plenty of bottled water. There was a mix of tourists and locals and the atmosphere was congenial due to the delightful attitude of the owner and his staff. All in all a great experience with great wine, great food and great service!

When it's all about the experience come to have lunch at Gaia, Jean Bousquet's restaurant. Amazing food combined with superb wines. Having said that I must say that the best part comes now. The warm and very personal service is the magic touch that defines this lunch as the perfect experience. On the other hand the balance of value for money works perfect. Excellent wines, food and experience for a very reasonable price.

La Buena Cosecha

Reviewed By napman - Annapolis, MD

Our extended family spent a week in the Uco Valley and had some wonderful meals. Most at the vineyard restaurants were exceptional but very expensive for Argentina. On our last evening we decided to eat at one of the local restaurants and chose el Buena Cosecha. The atmosphere is that of a local spot and the service was fine. Of the five meals only the fresh salmon was good and the stuffed rump roast was overcooked and tasteless. We never did figure out the schedule for many of the other restaurants in Tupungato because they were open for lunch and not dinner or not open on the weekend but I would not recommend this place unless there were no other options.

We arrived late for lunch but were graciously and immediately greeted by a host with our welcome glasses of wine and big smiles! We were seated in the dining area near a spectacular open kitchen where kitchen cree of no less than 5 chefs prepared our incredible 3-course Argentine wine pairing lunch. The waiters asked about food allergies then poured our guest tasting and explained what to expect at lunch. We saw the chef step out to the farden and return with a bowl full of herbs from the farden fir out meal. Everything was made fresh just prior to serving, even the cut if meat was cut just before grilling. The smells were amazing. The setting, even though we were inside, was spectacular with picture window views of the vineyard and Mountains! Highly recommend the lunch here! You'll be swept to a culinary delight! Reservation a must. I cant imagine given the few tables that walk ins are ok.

Tranquilidad absoluta!
