We stayed here for ten days in May, 2022. Tough to get here from the east coast, USA.......but worth it...... The staff was accommodating through and through. Helpful and friendly. Had some great talks with the general manager, Jerry Garcia.....he would often stop off in the restaurant to check on the patrons....great guy! The accomodations were wonderful....had a garden suite, small pool, outdoor shower, and tub. I saw posts mentioning updating needed doing....but our bungalow was fine. No mosquitos either The food was good, probably the best place on the island. There are a few other places to eat, didnt rry them all. The wait staff was amazing....Corail, Edgard, etc, all were great- and this is no reflection on the waiters and waitresses whom I cant recall their names.

Wonderful

Reviewed By DavJo12

This is an aging resort with plenty of charm. Think of it like being a rustic holiday home everyone wants to have. We had a beach bungalow which was good size and clean. We absolutely loved the outside bathroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good and there is a perfectly adequate selection of dishes to choose from, despite many reviews citing lack of variety. Mind that there is only one restaurant on site. We enjoyed snorkelling, and there is plenty of fish to see by the over water villas, but be careful of the strong current at high tide and make sure you pack swim shoes. Tikehau is the most insanely beautiful island with its pink sand and crystal clear turquoise sea. Visit this little rustic gem before it closes for renovation in January 2023.

Absolute Perfection

Reviewed By JM2007SJ

This is going to be a hard review to write, because for me, Ninamu was perfection. We fell head over heels in love with this place and plan to return. But, before you book, you need to know a few things as I know this place is not for everyone. This was our second resort on our 12 day trip to French Polynesia. After doing the traditional Overwater Bungalow at Le Taha’a, we wanted something different, so I was eager to stay at Ninamu. We arrived at the miniature Tikahau airport and were greeted by a woman who didn’t say anything, but smiled kindly, gave us flower lei’s and motioned us to a van. We put our luggage in the back and she drove us less than a mile to the dock. We were met by a young man who was also quiet, but loaded our bags, had us sit in the boat and proceeded to take us to the island. When we got off the boat, we were greeted by a very soft spoken young lady who said very little, but gave us a brief introduction and showed us to our bungalow. It was clear that they were glad we were there, but we had a slight language barrier because we don’t speak French. This place is the definition of relaxed and casual. It’s quiet, peaceful, private and romantic. Our days consisted of getting up, having a leisurely breakfast and then going on an excursion to snorkel, or swim with the manta rays, go fishing, and then return for lunch. The afternoons were spent snorkeling, kayaking, lounging, reading and relaxing around the resort. We headed to the main area at about 6pm, sat and had a cocktail and then dinner was at 7pm. We were always in bed by 10pm. By the second day, I wasn’t even wearing my flip flops to meals. It was during the first excursion that I paused and realized that this was a true Polynesian experience beyond my wildest dreams. I had disconnected from technology and modern day life, and was in heaven. We stayed in the air conditioned bungalow Teahupoo. It was so quirky and cool. The bathroom is outdoors, which my partner and I love! We love outdoor showers, and it also had a hottub, but it’s not heated. However, the water warmed up quite a bit with the sun, and it was super refreshing to sit in it at night and look up at the stars or relax in after an excursion. The bed was super comfortable, the room was extremely spacious and the deck facing the water was where we lounged and read books every day, watching sharks hunt right outside our room! The rooftop deck was fun to go up and look out at the scenery. Yes, there are mosquitos, a few bugs, cute lizards, coconut crabs and hermit crabs all over the island, we wore brought bug spray used it daily. This was not an issue for us. The meals we had here were simple, but really good. Breakfast consisted of pastries, toast, fruit, pancakes, juice and they offered eggs every morning. Lunch was usually rice, veggies and fish. Dinner was usually a potato item, fish and veggies. All were very tasty, and you literally ate the fresh fish you caught during the day. Portions were reasonable, but your typical American might not think it’s enough food. I would also note that I think it would be ridiculous to expect or want to eat red meat or chicken here, so I would expect to eat fish daily. In speaking with Greta, the owner, she explained that they see themselves more as a pension, not a resort. It really feels like you are a personal guest on someone’s private island. Personally, I think that Ninamu is not for high maintenance people. Here are a few questions to ask yourself before you book: Do you need a hair dryer? Do you need to wear make up? Do you have to dress up for dinner? Will you be miserable if you get mosquito bites? Do you require several choices at every meal? Do you need complex meals? Do you need to control and schedule out every activity you do on vacation? If you said yes to any of these, I would pause before booking. Ninamu is for people who are not fussy, who are flexible and adventurous. If you get joy from going with the flow and being delighted and surprised, you’ll love it. If you want to get away from it all, and see some of the most beautiful parts of French Polynesia, this place is a dream come true. Until next time Ninamu…….

Miki Miki lodge has 3 bungalows and two are facing the ocean so they get a wonderful ocean breeze and the the third one is garden or back facing so no views but is still very comfortable with an air conditioner since no breeze . Jannie is the hostess, cook, driver , cleaner , organizer , island expert, tour organizer, what can I say , she’s Super woman ! She makes her own bread ,jams and cook fabulous meals . The place is well maintained and her activities recommendations were perfect ! She picks her guest up at the airport and return and she even stopped at a local store on our way to the lodge so we could pick up water or beer etc for our stay . The views from the terrace are fantastic and peaceful . Just a short walk to the lagoon for a swim and to the pass to watch the dolphins ? play in the waves ! Loved my stay at MikiMiki Lodge and met some very nice people during our stay and the dinner conversations were very interesting and the food was magnificent ! There was also Jannies pets Blanche, Panda & Tiggy ( her dogs and cat) which made our stay very homey ! Miki Miki Lodge is great value and very comfortable and Jannie is the hostess with the mostest!

We stayed at Tiputa Lodge for a few days during our honeymoon. Raymond and Anto were such sweet, inviting, and accommodating hosts. They scheduled transfer to and from the airport (including short water taxi), and greeted us with flower necklaces. The lodge was not far from the main town of Tiputa but felt very private- like a little slice of paradise. Raymond was so nice and drove us everywhere we needed to go, as we scheduled many dives during our stay. Breakfast in the morning was delicious with fresh bread, homemade yogurt, multiple delicious jams, and cereal. It was such a highlight waking up in the morning and having breakfast and coffee on the balcony, as we overlooked the private beach and crystal clear blue lagoon. The apartment was spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated! The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to make a meal. We had an absolutely fantastic stay. Raymond and Anto truly make you feel like you are their priority. Would highly recommend staying here and we cannot wait to come back!

Hosts are very helpful and friendly and you can get in contact very easily, if you wish so. Optional dinner is also available and I would recommend it. Not only is the fusion of Italian, Japanese and Polynesian just delicious, you can also cook together and learn to make it on your own. We loved to star-gaze from the terrace of our bungalow and enjoyed the ocean breeze to cool down the night a bit. A definitive recommandation from our side!

I Tried and Tried and Tried.....

Reviewed By beaubo

I had read about how the owner Corinna was rather standoffish toward guest, and I had a hard time believing hat someone in the hospitality business could really have such an attitude toward guests. It was one thing to essentially be ignored, that would have been disappointing but expected. But, I made ongoing proactive effort to compliment her on the lodging and the food....and I still could not command even a little smile or eye contact. The property is nice- the bungalows were clean and comfortable. The food was above average and the overall value for the price was quite good. And the husband, Atu, though not demonstrating a lot of initiative, was at least friendly when approached. I don't expect con tact with management at a bigger hotel, but at a pension with just a few bungalows where the owner is constantly a presence, I think its not unreasonable to feel little love (or even just 'like') from the owner. Especially when compared to every other small pension we stayed at where the owners were incredibly friendly, helpful and warm. Paparara should easily be a 4 or 5 star review. If Corinna was merely neutral with her conduct, the review would be 4 star and if she was like the other owners, it would be 5 star. But, I personally can't reward an owner who is consciously not customer-centric. She has had repeated opportunities to read other TA reviews and reassess her conduct. I desperately tried to give her the benefit of the doubt....to no avail.

Great spot in quiet area close to Avatoru. Great food at the Snack Shack (name is deceiving as it's high quality food with a good variety of entrees, and the desserts are awesome) as well as a great place to meet some nice locals (I miss Stephen already, thanks for help translating!). Owners Cindy and Jean Louis are very friendly and helpful. Groceries available within a very short walk. Good access through the reef for snorkeling to the far left (look for the opening, sandy bottom). Excellent value if you can handle a more rustic experience and take care of yourself. Will be back next year but will add another week. Thank You Cindy & Jean Louis
