Chorros de la Calera

Reviewed By 123carlosq - San Salvador, El Salvador

NOTE: .If you are new to this place I totally recommend you to go only from Friday to Sunday because the cops don't use to be there during the week, only during the weekend so, take the necessary precautions and GO WITH FRIENDS, don't date to go alone unless you totally know what you are doing. Besides the above, the patch to the "Chorros" is very rough and you need to take a "Moto-taxi" which is about $3 (one way). When you get to the "Chorros" you'll have to walk for about 10 minutes going down until you finally see the first pool. It's beautiful in winter because the water keeps coming down like big falls and you can swim in the pool which is crystal clear & clean water that keeps flowing down, you even can drink it!!. Keep walking down and you'll find the 2nd pool but be careful because the path is short and you have to give a little jump at the middle part. If you keep walking you'll find the 3rd pool which is the last one and more private one because is more dangerous to reach it. If you like challenges, wild environments and these type of places you'll love it! Totally worth it.

Tamanique Waterfalls

Escape playa El Tunco on a hot day :) Or go swimming early in the morning - you will see sun going up straight from the ocean! And there is almost nobody there so early. Then book a guide in Tunco Life (for about 25 USD) who will bring you to Tamanique. From there, it will take a little hike downhill and you will pass few places where you can jump (if you want) - it's about 6-9 m. During the dry season, the cascade is quite small, yet refreshing. We enjoyed the tour!

Cascadas De Don Juan

Located on the road to Ataco, this lovely waterfall park hosts a great falls and lovely flora. The butterflies were everywhere and the orchids and other tropical flowers were blooming. A short 5 to 8 minute hike to the falls, the park is safe and well maintained. We paid 3.00 to enter. There is restaurant open on the weekends and the pool at the bottom of the falls is suitable for swimming. The terrain is a bit slippery and rocky so wear sneakers or good water shoes and apply insect repellent as the tropical nature lends itself to mosquitos. Another fabulous waterfall in ES!

Salto De Malacatiupan

This place is definitely a hidden gem near Rutas De Las Flores. There are a series of waterfalls with hot water that you can lie under for a hot shower! There are pools that you can sit in and there were also got and cold pools next to each other too. To get there you will need to catch a bus to Atiquizaya. We took a bus from Ahuachapan for $0.50, which was in a market area 5min walk down the road from where the 249 bus terminates, and then got a Tuk Tuk there from Atiquizaya for $5 (a little on the high side but it was getting late so we didnt have much time) and it was another 20min or so. You may have to wait a while afterwards, we got lucky and managed to get a lift back into town with a local.
