Top 8 Things to do in Hebden Bridge, United Kingdom (UK)

December 20, 2017 Esmeralda Fenner

This pleasingly peculiar market town is rife with old mills and flapjack-like "upstairs-downstairs" houses. Annual festivals, theatrical productions and parades pump the locals (and tourists) with life. Don’t miss the Hardcastle Crags or hiking along the gorgeous Pennine Way, and be sure to have a stroll along the inspirational Rochdale Canal.

On Sunday 29th October 2017 local author John Billingsley who specialises in quirky stories and finding interesting niches to explore lead a Calderdale Heritage Walk around Heptontall. It was on the eve of Halloween, and the stories had a typically macabre flavour, with John entertaining a large group of about 25 participants. It was a chilly afternoon temperature wise, equally matched by John's chilling tales. We had a wander through the winding backstreets and alleyways of this fascinating medieval hilltop settlement.. We learnt something of its intriguing history and local characters, seeing several features that the general tourist might easily miss. We ended up at the atmospheric deserted church just as the sun was setting, adding to the spooky setting at the end of an informative tour.

We used to live on a boat so any canal is good for me and the Rochdale is a pleasant walk on a sunny morning marred only by the inability of some dog owners to pick up their pets s**t

What a great intimate venue in a great village location, nestled in the foothills of Yorkshire.
Decent enough beer coupled with an intimate venue =
The ONLY downside is parking....but there is the railway station 5min brisk walk away!
Definitely go if you can....and you may bump in to your idol...

Well worth visiting after a good walk in Hardcastle Craggs. The mill has an interesting history and at the end of its life producing textiles was even used as an early entertainment venue. The waterworks/dam system that powered the mill are also very interesting. There is a little café attached with a nice sitting out area. It is also now dog friendly.

This place looks like an old style cooperative of dealers rather than the more modern interior design places. They have a huge variety of wares including some high quality pieces.Hello and thanks for reviewing Hebden Bridge Antiques Centre. You are right, we are a group of antique, collectables, second hand and specialist dealers rather than a reproduction interior design centre. We think it's more interesting too.

There are lots of fascinating walks in this area and each one has its surprises. I'd walked quite a bit all around here before I managed to find this pretty clough but it was really worth the effort. I'd highly recommend it although one needs to be sure footed as it's a bit vertiginous in places.

For a small back street mill gallery to have such a thought inspiring national exhibition is fantastic. Although there is no wheelchair access at the moment there is a new chair lift available, good to see. The gallery is on 2 floor so you need to be pretty nimble, but looking at this and past Exhibitions it is really worth a visit!
