Top 8 Specialty lodgings in Regensburg, Germany

April 25, 2023 Joeann Galban

Founded by the Romans in 179 AD as Casta Regina (meaning Fortress by the River Regen), Regensburg is one of Germany's oldest towns. It was relatively spared from Allied bombings during World War II. Today, many flock to see the wonderfully intact old city and its many medieval structures. The 12th-century Stone Bridge was used by Crusaders en route to the Holy Land. The Regensburg Cathedral (or Dom St. Peter) is one of southern Germany's finest examples of Gothic architecture.

Hotel Amy

Small hotel

This is a very small hotel; it is more a guest house. The building accommodate several businesses, and Amy Hotel is in one of the floors. Clean, nice staff, good wifi, fairly organized. Breakfast is ok. TV only with some German channels. Since I'm not German... Thank God for Netflix. The hotels reception is not always open. So... When you make check-in you need to pay. If you arrive in a time where no one is there, you will need to call to a phone number and wait 15 minutes for someone to appear. Shopping and supermarket nearby.

Excellent stay ...

Reviewed By Iolanda A

This fairly small hotel is rather "exquisite" because of being family owned and thus less "formal" than the average type of hotel. Its decoration was "family" oriented with pictures and paintings of the actual owner. The bedroom we were accommodated at was big and the morning breakfast was clearly the best we had throughout our 11 day trip to Germany.

Great value for your money, next to the old town

Reviewed By Sonia D

We are a family with 2 adult daughters and booked 2 rooms. The rooms were large, with a common bathroom and kitchen. Basic rooms, yet very good value for your money. One disadvantage: we were booked in nr. 25 where there is no wifi nor tv. Same price. So ask for rooms in nr. 27. Great private parking for only €5.

Top Lage im modernisierten Brauereihotel

Reviewed By MJS031969

nightly disturbances, insufficient service, disgusting smell in bathroom - not worth the money

Reviewed By katharine_smith0506

We were very unhappy with our stay: woken up multiple times due to hotel staff, disgusting/ foul smell in the bathroom and we had to make up the room partially ourselves. Room: We observed a really uncomfortable foul smell in our bathroom, that, after reporting, was ‘dealt with’, which seems dishonest since the smell was even worse the next day. The beds were only partially set up, so we arrived late and had to make our own beds, which I would have thought would be included in the room price! After making a complain, I was blamed by hotel staff for booking a wrong room, even though there was WRITTEN CONFIRMATION that I was in the right: no apologies/ explanations/ more accusation or compensations, simply no response - rude and disrespectful! Cleaning staff: Apparently, it is standard that they clean rooms prior to 8 am, which I personally find quite early and was in that night, after an unintentional call by hotel staff (we received apologies for that one!) the second unrequested wake-up (not for that one though). To be fair, once we managed to locate the ‘do-not-disturb’ sign (so high in the cupboard that I could not even reach it without help), the unappreciated early accesses to our room stopped. The cleaning itself was not thorough: the smell should have been noticed! Also, the provided soap was empty at arrival and not refilled during our stay either. Further, we tried to get information about when someone would be available at reception and our request was not understood. Conclusion: too expensive for what we got and being blamed for something that was obviously not my fault was the absolute ‘highlight’. Mistakes happen, but it is impertinent to not stand to them and just place blame on someone else and expect gratitude/ apologies from them… can’t say I would recommend a stay!

History and design in perfect harmony

Reviewed By 478annegreter

This is a remarkable house. Dating back to the 13th century, it has been stylishly restored, without losing the historical atmosphere. The furniture is a mix of mahogany antiques and 1950s design, and the result is sublime. On top of this, everything is extremely well functioning, lighting, heating, even music. The position cannot be bettered, a few steps from St Peter's Dome and the banks of the Danube and, the big surprise: the house where the commander of the European navy that won the decisive battle against the Turks at Lepanto in1571 was born, a few metres from you, on the opposite corner! This is really history brushing you with its wings! Thomas Insam is the perfect host.

Sehr unhöflich, unehrlich nicht kulant

Reviewed By wernerschalk
