Bit of a mixed experience at this place. It's in a good location, and service is friendly. We had an excellent lunch here one day - fish & chips and a steak sandwich (At $36 for fish and chips, it had better be perfect!). However, when we came back with friends for dinner, things were not so good. The fish batter was dark brown and overcooked (note to chefs: if you accidentally turn the flame-thrower on the fish, don't serve it up!), and my venison pie was equal parts gristle and leather. Man, they must have chased that buck a long way before he gave up and died of old age. Served with a portion of mash so tiny it was well-hidden by the three slivers of radish on top. Only one of the four meals was decent - a lamb shank. We popped around to Ferg Baker afterwards and had a much better pie for a fraction of the price. My advice is to have a good look at the food that's already out if you're thinking of dining here - if the place os busy, and the grub is looking frazzled, just keep walking.Hi DubbilDekkaBusWe appreciate you taking the time to leave your review however are understandably disappointed by your comments. Had you voiced the issues with your meal at the time the team would have been more than happy to replace the dishes. We aim to serve the best quality and the kitchen would have been eager to rectify anything that a customer felt was short of this.It is a little unfair to compare the price of a takeaway bakery item to that of a table served meal when the dining experience is not comparable.RegardsThe Pier Team

After the amazing Ben Lomond day hike, I have decided to reaward myself with an expensive dinner and I have randomly choose the Fishbone restaurant. I was not dissapointed: very friendly staff, amazing dishes and a nice patio outside. I had the lipped mussels with fries to it and they tasted heavenly.Kia Ora @LaviTuti That sounds a perfect combo: beautiful hike followed by a great dinner :) We are happy you had a great time dining with us. When you have so many dining options available in this town, and only 8 nights to experiment, and experience, having 2 meals in the same place requires a write up.With 38 years of being in the Customer Service/Food service industry, 20 as a Manager overseeing staff and food presentation and delivery in one of the largest organisations, my observations and experiences are of some value. We had dinner on the fifth evening and were impressed with the theme, inside a ship, candles in bottles, and the dark wood panels. When there is little of any kind of warm dining ambience in this town, Britannia sails past the buoy first. The food we partook in of Rack of Lamb, Drakes Steak and Salmon, as mains, Soup, as an entree, were both exceptional. The Potatoes were huge, and the dessert was impressive and tasty. I love a big warm winter soup, but the bowl was a little small for my desire, nonetheless enjoyable. Brad agreed with my choice of White wine for my wife, and she loved the Sauvignon Blanc so much we bought some bottles in the Liquor store next day. The service was exceptional by Brad, who was, chatty, hospitable and knowledgeable. He explained all the cuts of meat to a 13 year old girl, who rarely eats Steak, other than the regular Spaghetti Bolognese, and afterwards was very satisfied with the choice and his explanation. We decided 2 days later to go again, and even though we did not get hosted by Brad, 2 young ladies looked after us impeccably. The Steak i had this time was mouth watering, and the local Otago Red, from a large list of offerings, complimented the meal.As per another review, my 13 year old daughter had Drakes Steak a second time but asked for chips in lieu of Potato-no sweat, Holly changed that. We left satisfied again, and impressed with the dining experience. Next morning up at Coronet peak, Holly, also an instructress remembered my daughter by name and said good day to us-that personal touch, extended past the restaurant environment suggests Brad and his team, have got the right employees working in a cut throat industry that requires quality staff, as well as a good product. A Quality Restaurant to enjoy the Meats, as well as the Seafood, and be spoiled by attentive workers, with a quirky but impressive theme. Price is comparable to most restaurants we dined in of this quality.

I really enjoyed our dinner experience here. The staff are lovely, the decor is nice, and the food is pretty darn tasty! They have a very decent kids menu too (not just spaghetti with tomato sauce like we see in many other restaurants), from which we ordered a fish with steamed veges with no seasoning. And for ourselves, we had mussels, the lamb rack, and linguine, all of which were delicious! Would definitely come back.

Wandering the waterfront precinct of Queenstown after a couple of ales nearby, we were taken by the position of this restaurant. We were over the pub lunches/dinners & were looking for something more.....special. The position was/is special with lake views form several tables. Looking from the outside in, the 1st impressions were really very appealing. The restaurant impressed with its clean, modern looks & the wait staff were neatly dressed. The visual appeal through the windows was enough for us. We hadn't booked - which I advise you do if you'd like a lake view - so back for a few more cleansing ales before returning to our table.I now regret getting our waiter's name for he was so professional, answering any queries about the foods on offer & the wines too. Didn't try to be our best friend or behaved like he was bored. He just made our experience all the more memorable which, along with the quality & presentation of our seafoods & wine, prompted us to say thank you "Finz Seafood & Grill" & thank you tall, slim waiter :)The food impressed me so much I do what I always do after enjoying a great meal, I went to the kitchen serve-through & thanked chef & kitchen staff.
