This is a beautiful tranquil sacred shrine dating back to 1600s and probably further to the Anglo Saxon period. Its way off the beaten track but this Roman Catholic Shrine (open to all and everyone) is Lancashires "Walsingham". The volunteer staff are super friendly and there is a nice glass tea room where all drinks and snacks are free (yes that's right). If you wish you can put some coins in a basket as a donation but none is expected. The Holy House has a gift shop, a second hand book centre (yes the books are free again), tea rooms and on the upper floor you have a wonderful chapel and a Reliquary Room which is full of relics (bones and clothes and items) that belonged to a great deal of English Martyr Saints, plus many European Saints. The calm tranquil gardens contain the English Martyrs Chapel, a separate Chapel and the main feature which is the ancient shrine well of Ladyewell. There are some quiet areas of the shady gardens which almost have a tropical feel, so overall this is a really good place to visit. Whilst here you must visit the ancient Parish Church of St Mary which is a 10 minute gentle walk through a thoroughly English hedgerow lane. Note: If you find the tiny Shrine car park full then simply park by the church and walk up to Ladyewell.
